I am not, but have thought about joining. I was wondering if you are related to Throwers around here? I also have Throwers in my family tree from Scotland County. I have a lot of family history already on the Bennett side, but have not had time to research. My Bennett Lineage is from Thomas Bennett (1735-1796), my great, great, great, great, grandfather. He migrated here from Scotland in 1735 and settled in Williamston N.C. I do not know for sure if he lived in Virginia first but perhaps I could find out. He had sons, William, James, Milton and John Anthony Bennett. Milton would be my great, great grandfather, born in 1824 in Williamston N.C. (That is in Martin County N.C. ) If you find you are related to Bennetts' in Martin County let me know. I have quite a bit of history on them already.
I had that Lawrence O'Bryan came to NC through VA from Cork, Ireland. Don't know accuracy of this; found in Richmond County History. Seems to be generally accepted by all those people.
I corresponded with one person doing Bennett research. She was so frustrated that she was leaving it for a while. There were repeats of first names and 2nd marriages with brothers/cousins wives, etc.
Keep me informed, please. Are you on Ancestry.com?
Debra, I see you are searching for O'Briens and Bennetts. I, too, have those in my tree. The Bennetts I have were in VA. I don't know much about them. I saw that one was Governor of VA, but I figure he was probably not in my direct line. I figure anyone famous is a brother of a ?-great-GF!
I also see that your address is Laurinburg, I have MANY ancestors from that area. My husband and I went to Rockingham last summer and checked out some things at the courthouse.

Would love to share any information -- both ways!
