Stackhouse Family

I've hit a stone wall with my family in Monroe Co. My greatgrandfather George was born there, but died in Wetzel Co. His father Joshua Stackhouse was born in Monroe Co. I am trying to trace him back to the Patriot Isaac Stackhouse born in Hampshire Co. Now WV.He died in Monroe Co. Ancestry has it wrong. 1850 census has Joshua {where were parents born blank.} Several death certificates in WV have unknown for Joshua's parents birth place. The problem is that there is a Joshua Stackhouse born in Clinton Co. and died in Clinton Co. that has been merged with my Joshua who died in Wetzel Co. WV .They also had different wives. Mine is Mary Jane McFarland. I need to find something in Monroe about his birth and who his parents were. He was born Jan. 9, 1823-25. married in Belmont Co. Ohio 2/8/1849. If you have any idea on where I should go I would appreciate any help. Dianne in WV

Hi Dianne!

You might do the following: contact the Monroe Co.Public Library about the Stackhouse's,write a Letter to the Editor to the newspaper in Monroe Co. to see if there are any Stackhouse descendants still living there & join the Monroe Co.Genealogy Society not necessarily in that order.Hopefully, you will be able to get some information on your Stackhouse family.

Have you tried to look at newspaper articles. The buying and selling of animals and grains and seeds etc. In the old Golden Gate Forum someone used to come in with huge Stackhouse data but also stuck in your area., I wish I could remember their name. Susi
