I am trying to find information about relatives in CLAY County. My great grandfather John Wesley Marr moved to that county about 1850 and left there in 1880. He was married to Eliza Lewis. All his children were born in Clay County. His children who remained behind when he left are: Alice Annie Marr (married Berry Wade); James Berryman Marr (married Myrtle Duncan) and Virginia Motie Marr (married Daniel Lewis). John also left three daughters buried in Clay County: Emily 1866-68); Helen (1868-76); and Georgie (1872-74). If anyone has information about these people and/or if anyone is related to them I would like very much to hear from you. I'm also wondering if anyone is taking pictures of headstones in Clay County cemeteries. Unfortunately I don't know where any of my relatives are buried. Thant you for any consideration. Phillip
Good morning Phillip, I did a quick search on FindAGrave, and found Emily(May 27, 1866-68) and Helen(March 28, 1868-1876) at Paradise Cemetery in Clay County. There are no photos of the tombstones, but they are listed as the children of John and Eliza.
Here's a link to more information on Paradise Cemetery, which was originally "Gosneyville Cemetery" as Gosneyville was the original name of the town that became Paradise.
I did find a tombstone photo for Alice(1855-1834) and her husband Berry Wade(1856-1924) at the IOOF (an Odd Fellows cemetery) Cemetery in Smithville, Clay County,
Thank you very much for your response. I went to FindAGrave to see the entries on Emily and Helen. I am now going to look at the two links you included. Phillip.
Thank you for the offer. The three girls are Emily Marr, died 1868; Georgie Marr, died 1874; and Helen Marr, died 1876. The family lived near or in Paradise (formerly Gosneyville) so I am thinking they are buried in Paradise Cemetery. In FindAGrave Emily and Helen are listed as buried in Paradise Cemetery but I have no proof. If you do get to Clay County and can find the gravesites I would be extremely grateful. Phillip
