George W. Feeback, b. Feb 11, 1914, d. Aug 22, 1951 in Kansas City, Wyandotte County, KS. He is buried in the Old St. Patrick's Church Cemetery in Kansas City, KS. I need to know who his parents were. I believe he may be the son of Melvin W. Feeback and grandson of Abraham Alexander Feeback, both of whom were born in Cynthiana, Nicholas Co., KY and died in Kansas City, Wyandotte Co., KS. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Carol-
Just an idea I had in reading this discussion- What if Melvin's wife left him in January, leaving George at her mother's home, then remarried taking George with her at some point before the 120 census, then either she dies, or the new husband doesn't want George in his household?

So, I'm wondering if its possible that George has another last name in 1920? Given his 'stepfather's' name for that one census?
Hi Kate,
Your idea certainly has merit. I thought maybe George was living with his mother in 1920, either under his mother's maiden name, or that she had remarried and George is listed under her new married name. I've been looking for a marriage of Mary Flynn and Melvin Feeback, or Mary Feeback to a 2nd husband. Found Melvin's 2nd marriage but nothing else that looks connected.

I just found contact info for the Archives of the Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kansas where they have sacramental records stored. George's history is more than 50 years old so those records have become public accessible. Maybe they will have something.

In the meantime..another tidbit popped up. There is a George and Helen Feeback living at 4308 LaFayette Avenue, KCKS, in 1940 -- from the Polk's City Directory of Kansas City, KS. LaFayette Avenue is significant because the Flynn family lived in the 2200 block and other involved parties lived in the neighborhood. So a marriage record for George and Helen is a possibility also. The hits just keep coming. Thanks-cb
Update on George Feeback Challenge:
I received George's death certificate today. It confirmed some conjectures we have had about George. His parents were Melvin Feeback and "Marie" Flynn. The census records all list "Marie" as Mary Flynn. Melvin and George were living in the Flynn home in 1915. So Mary/Marie is the wife Melvin refers to in the letter he wrote at the time of his suicide attempt. Since Mary's parents did not approve of their marriage, they reported her to the census taker under her maiden name.

George William Feeback died at age 37 of carcinoma in the right lung. His wife's name was Helen. They lived just a short way from his grandparents, Patrick and Mary Flynn. He was a self-employed residential building contractor.

I will be in the Kansas City area in a couple of weeks and will try to visit the Archdiocese, St. Patricks, and Wyandotte County Historical Society...also the Mid Continent Genealogical Library.

Just an add'l note: There is a Marie J. Carpenter, 1896-1987, buried in the plot next to George Feeback. The plot was part of a purchase by the Feeback family. I'm pursuing the notion that this Marie is "probably" George's mother, Marie/Mary Flynn.

How exciting this search has been and continues to be. Thanks everyone for all you help!
Lots has happened. My research in Kansas City KS turned up this .... I spoke with Mona at St. Patrick's Church Cemetery. She was able to give me the name of the funeral home who conducted George's funeral. Funeral records gave the names of the survivors...his wife, Helen, sons, John and William, and mother... Marie J Carpenter. So we've solved this mystery.

George William Feeback was the only son of Melvin William Feeback and Mary/Marie/Dolly Flynn. Now, that opens up another whole line of questions about Mary and what happened in her life. But that's for another day...I need to get back to work on my own family research for a while.

Thanks to everyone for your help, your suggestions, and for allowing me to work through my findings. I may be an amateur genealogist, but I so love doing this.
