Can someone explain the 2 terms ROTE and EGOR or ÄGOR?
I have a vague idea but details might help. Both words appear after (ery) local place names in husförhörslängder sometimes with the same place name. There are perhaps some legal aspects to the terms. Certainly social...

Rote: It depends if its a military or under the church. But you can say that it is a gather of houses and farms, like a village
Egor, Ägor: That is land you own, its the same. Egor is the old spelling and Ägor is the modern one -

The context was something like Norrgårds rote and Norrgårds egor and the priest was very careful to distinguish them. In my case I did not see any mention of soldiers. I did not realize there were other types of roter. Does that mean that they paid rent to the church? -

It's just administration area. There are both military Rote and a church Rote, but the area could be different You pay taxes both too the government and too the church.
