Surrey Heritage's Marvels of the Month for February are now online at http://www.surreycc.gov.uk/marvels and on display in the Surrey History Centre foyer. This month, we celebrate 'Your Paintings' and a literary connection, highlight the historical significance of seals, and discover an affectionate side to Surrey politician, Henry Goulburn.
My grandfather Charles Henry Louder's family lived in Redhill. Their surname has changed a few times. eg. Loader, Lodder, Lowder, Louden was the last name he used as it was a mistake in transcription. His father was James Lowder and mother was Eliza Kent. I have been trying to find grandfathers birth place as on most documents I find it has "born at sea". I did get a certificate through Ancestry.com. and showed Redhill as birth place. He was baptised at St. John's and his father James Lowder living at 19 Grove Road, Redhill, Surrey. On the documents it shows his father as born in Scotland but I can't find his birth place. I'm looking for any info regarding this family; occupations, parents, death notices or anything about their history. Thank you for any help you can give me.
