From reading through the various comments here, I saw direct references to several of the areas mentioned in them.  Apparently much serious research went into this book and the information is pretty reliable.  I'm scanning through it (about 900 pgs in length) to try and find references to Coxes who ended up in the western part of PA and then into VA(WV) area, but along the way I'm finding many genealogies listed which enable me to discount them from my line because of the area or dates.

Hi Brenda.I looked through that book also..but I am thinking my line must be one of them he mentions that there isn't any info about.John Cox..1740-1800..is as far as I have gotten back. Not sure where he was born, but died in Pittsylvania County Virginia.I only match 2 on the Family Tree DNA Cox project..my haplogroup is I-CTS6017.

On the archive.org site you can look up many texts in the category of genealogy, and many are from the Allen Co library - someone on here recommended this site to me and I find that there are some books related to specific Cox families.  I believe there is one about John Cox - I wonder if he could possibly be your John.  There are also some county and state histories where you might find something about him.  I search around for a while and then have to take a break because other duties call.  But good luck in your search.
