Doug - have you checked Virginia, North and South Carolina? In the 1700's the John Beverley line was in VA; he had a daughter, Sarah, who married John Washington Cox in NC. The Cox line is also linked to a Gambrell line in South Carolina. I haven't gone back further on the Gambrell line, but it could be that they all traveled from VA. Sometimes you can find the last names used as first or middle names later in time.
