Hope this turns into a great discussion area for doing German research. I have many lines from Germany from various time periods.

I am looking for just one line. HOLZGRAFE anywhere. Ferdinand b. 1854 in Indiana; various census records, etc. say parents b. Germany or Prussia. I don't really know where to turn as uncertain who his parents were. Any advice welcomed.

I first meet Louisa Klinefelter in Pittsburgh on 6 Aug 1857 when she marries Henry Tirrell (also Tirril), a stone cutter (think those glorious funerary statues). She was the daughter of the sternwheeler captain mentioned in Mark Twain's memoir about his brother's death.
She was born 7 May 1839 in Pittsburgh and died 26 Sept 1878, one year and one month after the passing of her husband, in Bunker Hill, Macoupin, IL. They are both buried in a family plot in the cemetery there.

No, I haven't. Not that sure where he was born. Some material suggests Evansville, which is in Vanderburgh Co.; some suggests Randolph Co. Not near each other. That was my next step: to try to resolve where in Indiana. Church records are great suggestion if I can tie him down better, or if they just suggest family movement after his birth.

I am researching Steinseifer from Westfaln, Germany to PA in 1749. Shaver and Haines immigrated from Germany to Johnstown, Tryon Co., NY about 1750's, UE Loyalists.

I am researching the Pabst surname from Germany. My gg grandfather was Charles Alexander Pabst, born 1842 in Saxony, Germany. His death certificate lists his father as Fredrich Pabst. A census lists his parents as both being born in Saxony, Germany. I know he came to the U.S. in 1862 (per census records), but have not been able to locate him on any passenger lists yet. I believe he came to the U.S. through New York as I have found military records showing a Charles A. Pabst enlisted in Buffalo about 1865. Charles then moved to Texas where he met and married Emily Davis in Burnet County, TX in the 1890s. She is presumed to have died and he then married Margaret Tow sometime later and had children, one of them being my ggf William Pabst. Charles never spoke of being in the service and some in the family believe it is because he fought for the Union then came down to live in Texas (the South). Charles is my brickwall as I do not know what his parents names are, where and which port he immigrated through to the U.S. and I'd also like to know more info about his parents and other Pabst family in Germany.

Hi, my German ancestor names are Haubach and Stottlemyer. Haubach seems to be a rare name in Germany and the US. Although there aren't many, no one seems to know if they are related to each other. Haubachs were from Hesse

I am searching for information on the Barger/Barrier family from Stuttgart & Wuttenburg areas of Germany.
Michael Barger/Barrier came to Pennsylvania in 1752 and moved to Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina around 1759. He had four sons, George Henry Barrier, Jacob Barrier, John Barrier and Abraham A. Barrier. Abraham md. Elizabeth Reynolds in 1760 in Rowan County, NC. Their son Rev. Richard Barrier migrated to Wayne County, KY.

Researching Lange family from Fulda?/Bremen, Kammerman family from Hanover, Schneider family from Berlin, Gottshal from Berlin-I think. Our Lange/Kammerman came from Germany to US/No.Nevada in 1882 & 1890. Schneider/Gottshal's came to US/W. Pennsylvania in 1886.

My immigrant ancestor was Johan Adam (anton) Hellenthal that came to Philadelphia, PA USA in 1753 via Rotterdam on the ship Snow Carlotta. Other Census information indicates St. Ingbert as his birthplace. He must have been 18 yrs at the least to apply for entry to the USA.

One of my immigrant German ancestors was Henry (Heinrich) GIMPER, born about 1733. He arrived in Philadelphia 2 October 1753 on the "Edinburgh" from Rotterdam with a stop in Cowes. I suspect he may have come from Daaden, near Siegen in the Westerwald (Rhineland-Palatinate) but have not been able to prove this. He eventually went to North Carolina and the surname evolved into Kimbro in the Orange County area. Others on this voyage were from the Daaden area, so I'm hopeful someday to make contact with other researchers who have explored the roots in Germany.

Researching DABELSTEIN from Lubeck in Nothern Germany. Found that Ancestry has several records from Lubeck including birth records from the date range I'm searching, but had no luck finding Dabelstein name. I know that every record follows the same basic format, but could not read the majority of the record. But names were easy to pick out. Wish I could think of a more efficient way to search - or at least know which word in the record indicates the month. I know what the word for January is, but cannot figure out which part of the record has the date. I assumed it would be in the first sentence, but I may be assuming too much. Any hints appreciated!

Am interested in any Hansch or Knoblisck descendants. This is my husbands side of the family. They came from Celisia Prussia to Australia.

My Mother's side of the family came here from Germany. The RIEMER's come from the area around Wollin in Pommern, now Poland. Her SCHLAKE family was from Hullhorst, Blasheim and the area around Luebbecke in Westfalen. I have just begun researching these families and do not have much information on them.

I have German ancestors woven into both my maternal and paternal ancestry along with English and Swiss [German-speaking areas]. I would like to know more about the ancestors of my second great-grandmother Apollonia Becker Bruce. Thanks to family history and microfilm records I know that she was born on 1 May 1838 near the village of Zemmer, in turn near Treves [Trier] in western Germany. Her parents were Ignatii Becker and Magdalena Platt, and they likely married about 1832 as daughter Catherine was born 4 April 1833. We traveled to Germany several and enjoyed walking through the Alt Friedhof's (old cemeteries.) We were lucky enough to come across the Sigle Family graves in Schorndorf and Alfdorf. What I find very interesting is, since a shortage of graves,or land for cemeteries, many family members are interred together and names just added to the family stone! We saw this numerous times!

I've found some of my ancestors in Doggingen, Baden Germany. My grandmother's family came over in the 1880's (I haven't found their ship yet). I do not know the reason they decided to emigrate, I think that would be one of the most interesting things I could find out. My grandmother was a Straub, her mother was a Hildebrandt. My grandfather was a Link, I believe he was from Hausenvorwold, but my main computer is down at this time so don't have all the information in front of me. Would love to find anyone who has an interest in those names.

My maiden name is Ossinger and I have no idea of the origin of this name but found a small mountain in Germany, near Hamburg called Ossinger mountain. Wondering if any one is familiar with this name and or its origins. I found that reference by doing a google search. The only other instance of the name Google came up with is a town I switzerland named Ossingen. The meaning was said to be"home of the Ossingers" My Great great grand father is as far back as I can go and there is no record of where he was from or where he was born. he showed up in Nova Scotia and founded a family!! My paternal grandmother's line is Clos some time spelled Closs/Klos/Kloss from Bledesbach, Rheinland-Pfalz, BAV (at time of immigration was part of Kingdom of Bavaria - through New Jersey - later part of the kin moved north west to Michigan and westward. My line crossed to Cincinnati area then crossed the river into Kentucky (Campbell/Pendleton/Bracken Counties. Some the allied families were Faul, Baure and Ruf/Ruff.

My great-great Grandfather was born Johan Huttel in Engelthal, Germany. He changed his name to John Huettel when coming to America around 1905.
