I love FamilySearch Sync because I have access to it and it makes using new FamilySearch so much easier! I also love the edit screen. I can see a time line of events all in one window and edit them easily too.
I started using Rootsmagic 3 a couple of years ago, and upgraded to 4 when it was released. I originally got Rootsmagic 3 because I liked the idea of shareable CDs, which were Christmas presents for my family. I like the Rootsmagic 4- to- go feature.
I am also a RootsMagic user ... actually since its early roots as Family Origins 2.
I have wanted to find a group to discuss problems, but I don't think anyone in WAGS uses it but me. I have always received complements on how my family trees and ancestor charts looked. I am surprised at how many people in genealogy do not use a program to help them organize the information (they still hand write their charts). There are many people in WAGS who do not use computers.
I love RM3 and have the CD for RM4 but I was on the email list and in the beginning there were so many things different / new / and issues that I stayed with RM3. Is there an update yet for RM4? thanks for the group!
Brenda, yes you can install RM3 and RM4 separately. We just released another RM4 update this morning (4.0.4.0). There is info on our blog (just look at the section above... up there ^
I like the fact I can copy my information to a CD and show the living without their information. Also, the web search feature which will soon have the Family Search added. I think all of the features are great and I really like the program.
I like Fact Without Source report... I print this report and then I add all the LDS films number in the margins, so when I go visit the Family History center or library in Salt Lake City.. I can go right down the list of films to look at, then I have the source for those missing proof.
I've been using Legacy for a few years now and am wondering how hard it would be to switch over to RootsMagic? Is there some sort of guide or manual that would help? Ideas?
Bernard, there is a video tutorial available, and I am working on the book for version 4 as we speak (probably a couple of months off). It is actually very easy as RootsMagic 4 has a direct Legacy import so it isn't even necessary to go through GEDCOM.
Poppy,
A USB drive is one of the tiny memory devices that plug into the USB port. They are also known as thumb drives and memory sticks among other names. THey come in a variety of sizes, but 4GB and 8GB are quite common. 1GB and 2GB are available in many discount stores.
RootsMagic To-Go is included with the RootsMagic 4 software. It is a separate module that you start from the desktop (if you had RootsMagic install icons) or from the Start menu with the RootsMagic program. Details of using RootsMagic To-Go is included in the help file for RootsMagic.
