Hi Lesley,
Long time no talk.
How is your genealogy research going?
I have managed to trace most of the Scase's from Norfolk down to current times. Still no luck with tying together the various Scase's I have found in and about Swaffham back in the 1700's.
I am trying to find the parents of James Linstead, Maltster who was born in Topcroft around 1796, according to various census entries. I cannot find any other record of him. Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.
A James Linstead was baptised at St Margarets Church, Topcroft, Norfolk on 5 May 1793. His parents were James Linstead and Sarah Sutton. This info came from FreeREG (Great resource for Norfolk!) www.freereg.org.uk
I am researching the Stebbings family from Hilborough. I have got back to William Stebbings and Sarah Hybbard who married there 11 December 1822. William died in 1844 and Sarah in 1896
Hi just joined the group and thougt I would post my interest. My main research is for HAMMOND - Bradenahm, Billingford, Sparham, and Bawburgh. Other suranmes I am reseraching are BETTS, BUTTLE, BRINGLOE, CLARKE, CUSHING, NEVE.

Hello, I'm interested in the BLOY, SHALDERS and TAYLOR families from Norwich, particularly the connections of Edward Shalders and Mary Ann Womack who married in St John de Sepulchre, Norwich in 1821 and their daughter Laura Bloy Shalders who married William Henry Taylor in 1860. This last couple moved to Manchester and then Newcastle on Tyne. I have very little information about the Taylors in Norfolk.

Just ordered a copy of 'Tracing Your East Anglian Ancestors: A Guide for Family Historians' by Gill Blanchard. I will have to wait until I receive it before I can give a review but thought other members might be interested to know that there are a number of sellers on Amazon offering it at less than published price.
Hi all, I have joined the group & thought I would post my interests in Norfolk. HOLLAND, James who married Elizabeth BURTON in West Bilney in 1849. They came to NSW via South Australia in abt 1858-9. They had 3 children in Norfolk and had another 6 in NSW. They are my x great grandparents.

Hi Everyone
I am John Laws, a member of the Guild of One Name Studies, researching LAW, LAWE, LAWES, LAWS, LAWSE World-Wide though my own LAWS family came from the Stepney/Bethnal Green/Mile End area and were mostley Mariners, and my earliest is Henry son of John & Mary Laws from Walworth, fairly newly built when he was born in 1800.
I have collected a huge database The LAWS FAMILY REGISTER with a great many from Norfolk we have our own group on this site, our own website www.lawsfamilyregister.org.uk and also I moderate the LAW@Rootsweb & LAWS-UK@Rootsweb groups, Hope we can give mutual help
does any else know more about the wheals name. my Desendants came from norfolk.
I am also looking for more info about the blackburns as my great grandfather came from potter heigham norfolk.
Another link to add to the list above - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~tinstaafl/ - I do not know if all the parishes are in Norfolk - but at least some are.
Can we exchange links? I am admin for a Genealogywise group called "The English Fens", part of which are in Norfolk. The Fenland area of eastern England is a rather odd region, covering damp, flat bits of several counties!
Just joined this group and i'm seeking some help.

I have been doing alot of research but cant find anything on this man..His father was a John Williamson and his mother was an Ann Woods...
Can anyone help or point me in the right direction please

I am searching for any information on William Lynn born abt 1790. He married Mary Ann Armager born 1809, but I would like to know if he was married previous to her. Reason for that is that she would have been too young to have had the first child of William Lynn. How would I find this out? They left Norfolk for Illinois. William I believe left in 1842 and Mary Ann and all the children except David left in 1844.
Their children weree:
David born abt 1823 died Illinois
Rebecca born abt 1823 (belive them to be twins) died Illinois
Hannah, born abt 1828 died Illinois
John born Oct 1835 died Illinois
George born 14 Mar 1837 died Illinois
William born 26 Dec 1838 in Walsoken died Illinois
Sarah Ann born abt 1839 died 31 Dec 1841 in West Walton
James born 1842 (Not sure if this James belongs to this family but I think he does. He was born in West Walton, baptized at St. Mary Parish Church) He would have died very young.
There were two more children born in Illinois James in 1846 and Ellen in 1850
Any help in finding anything on this family is greatly appreciated.
I have just joined the group and my interests are ABREY, OSBO(U)RN(E),

I am looking for information on the HALLS family from West Dereham.
Jonathan HALLS married Mary Ann NORMAN in 1848, they were both from West Dereham. Mary Ann was the daughter of James NORMAn and Sarah HOWARD. Jonathan HALLS was the son of William HALLS and his wife Jane.
Cannot find the marriage of William HALLS to Jane (surnames not known), nor where either of them were born / baptise although Jane gives her place of birth as Wretton (1851 census).
Have you by chance managed to get his baptism record and marriage record from the West Dereham parish registers now online at famillysearch.org pilot search. I had a quick look but did not find a marriage for the parents as yet but did find another sibling of Johnathan's so may be well worth your while having a look on that site and you can download the images for your tree.
No nothing on the Norfolk registers for baptism or marriage (have spent two days looking!) in West Dereham or Wretton - I believe William died before 1851 so no luck in looking at the census either. Jonathan had sisters Sarah and Jane to my knowledge, but there may have been others.
Margaret: go to familysearch.org and then click on the search tab then select record search pilot when the new window comes up click on browse our record collection when the map comes up click on Europe then a list will come up and you will see a red star next to Norfolk Church of England Parish Registers click on it and a long list of registers will come up that you can browse. These are not indexed but they are from the parish registers and you can browse the images when you find one you want just download it to your computer for your records. I seen a George Hall on those registers and also Jonathan's record but note his surname is Hall not Halls
Hope this helps as its well worth taking a good look at those records. You will even save 7 pounds on his marriage certificate as its the same record done at the church.
This is indeed a wonderful resource for those with Norfolk ancestors - I have already found one baptism, two marriages and four burials since it came online at the weekend.
My problem brickwall is William who appears to have died between the 1841 and 1851 census and therefore I have no place of birth for him where I can start looking - I have been trying to find this family for over twenty years.....
Thanks Rick for pointing me in the direction of the Norfolk Parish Registers pilot - have already found some entries and am sure will find more! A wonderful resource.

Thanks for the direct link to Norfolk Parish Registers. I've enjoyed success over there. Even though I have a couple of thousand ancestors in my tree based on Norfolk I have been able to find - so far just based around Oxwick and Whissonsett - five or six others (including a new layer of great grand parents) of which I was previously unaware. Truly a great resource!
I have over 30 Melton's in my tree, many from the Whissonsett area. The key one is Robert Hewitt Melton b 1863 in Whissonsett who married Hattie Chapman my 1st cousin 4 x removed.
I have been exploring the Norfolk Parish Registers project but don't find any records for Edgefield. Does anyone know where these might be accessible on line?
I am looking for anything on the BIX (BIXX / BIXE / BICKS) family. I have a church death record from Canada that tells of Susan(na) wife of William BIX, she b. c. 1786, d. 1836. And that they were late of Norfolk. Not sure if it means they resided in Norfolk or simply departed from Norfolk. They had at least one daughter Christian(n) b. c. Dec 1815 England and possibly a son James. Wondering if anyone else is researching the family and can add to my information. Thanks. Jim
Have found a little more on my BIX family, would like to hear from anyone researching this family (BIX / BIXX / BIXE / BICK[E}S & LINES), thanks, Jim.

CALLED HOME.
The Great Reaper of all the world suddenly claimed the life of Mary Wilson on the evening of October thirty-first. Mrs. Wilson was a lady much respected by all, a gentle Christian mother whose children always felt and showed the strongest devotion to her.
She had been a widow for about thirteen years and for many years past has resided on her farm near Helena. Mrs. Wilson has been in ill health for some time and on the day of her death went to pay her daughter, Mrs. James Woods, who resides but a short distance away, a visit, and during the evening the mother was stricken with paralplis and died almost immediately.
The deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Morley formerly of Roxborough, Glengary County, Ontario at which place Miss Morley was born, sixty-eight years ago.
At the age of twenty-two she was joined in marriage to George Wilson at Muskoka Lakes, Ontario, and shortly after moved to this state, settling first in Sherman township, Huron County, then moving to their farm in Sand Beach township.
The deceased is survived by nine children, five boys: James and John of Sterling, Mich.; William and George of King County, Wash., and Samuel Allen Wilson at home and four daughters: Mrs. David Wood of King County, Wash.; Mrs. Leo Lamb and Mrs. Fred Roberts of Detroit; and Mrs. James Woods of Sand Beach township.
Two sisters, Catherine and Elizabeth of Pottsdam, N.Y and Osprey, Ontario, respectively, and five brothers, namely; William, David and Robert of Sterling, Mich.; Samuel of Northwestern Canada, and John A. Morley of this city also survive her.
The profusion of beautiful floral pieces and the great sorrow which this sad event of death caused the deceased many friends, bespoke the high esteem in which she was held.
Rev. R. H. Munro officiated at the funeral services which were held from the family home Friday at 1:30.
The remains were enterred in Rock Fall Cemetery. (Harbor Beach Times, Friday, November 24, 1911, p.1).

vi. John Allen MORLEY, b. 5 Nov 1849/54 in Lancaster, Ont., CAN, d. 15 Sept 1930 in Harbor Beach, Huron Co., MI.
Obit: "John Allen Morley, a former business man of this city passed away very peacefully, Sunday, September 14th after a long illness. He has been in ill health for the past seven years, and for the past two years he was confined to his bed. Mr. Morley was engaged in the laundry business for fifteen years, his son Robert was in partnership with him. In 1918 Mr. Morley retired and his son took over the business. Mr. Morley was born at Lancaster, Glengarry Co.,
Ontario, November 5, 1854 of English parents, who immigrated to this country in the year 1938. At the age of thirteen Mr. Morley perempted a farm in Muskoka district, Ontario, then in 1876 he came to Huron county and bought a farm in Sherman township, which was still in the wilderness He bilt a home on the quarter line as surveyors lines were not quite accurate. In 1886 he moved to Sand Beach. He married Miss Jennie Graham in 1880 and seven children were born to their union, all are still living in Michigan. The mother departed from life in 1900.
In 1912 Mr. Morley again married, Mrs. Marie Attridge, who survives his death. Funeral services were held from the home at 1:00 Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. O.B. Ansted officiating. (1) Married 1880, Harriet Jane GRAHAM, b. 13 Sept 1864 in Ont., CAN, (daughter of John H. GRAHAM and Mary RUSSELL) d. 20 Jan 1900 in Harbor Beach, Huron Co., MI.
Harriet:
Obit: "Mrs. John A. Morley, age 27 years, died at her home in this village on Friday morning last, after a brief illness of only six days. Her health was the direct result of a complication of diseases, and medical aid was powerless to put off the dreaded moment. She leaves a husband and seven children to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother. A sad circumstance in connection with the greater trial was the enforced absence of the husband during the critical period of last week, and on whose account the funeral has been delayed. Mr. Morley left for the Klondike some three years ago, but for the past year has been located at Vancouver, B.C. He was notified of Mrs. Morley's sudden illness and death, and left Vancouver Sunday last. Owing to the great distance, it is hardly expected that he will reach Harbor Beach until Saturday evening.
The remains of the deceased lady will not be interred until Mr. Morley's arrival home. The departed was a highly respected lady of this community, a patient and devoted wife and a careful and watchful mother. She was a member of the local lodge of the L.O.T.M. in which society she held insurance to the amount of $1,000. It is expected the funeral will be held some time Sunday." (Harbor Beach Times, Friday, 26 Jan 1900, last page.)

If you are looking for a particular surname in Norfolk England you may like to know that I have now recorded the memorial inscriptions at over 60 Norfolk parishes and will continue to do so. To search for the surname Jones for example enter this in your search engine Jones site:epitaphorigins.info
I am a bit thick re computers but I tried your suggestion below with Linstead, one of my Norfolk surnames and the search engine could not find anything. Is this because there is nothing or did I misunderstand your instructions below? Sorry to be a pain!

Harriet:
Obit: "Mrs.
It is expected the funeral will be held some time Sunday."
