I have no idea if you are the link I'm looking for, but you share a last name with my grandfather. It's always good to start somewhere!

My grandfather was William James Cox, born in Jersey City on July 21, 1919. He served in World War II, and passed away September 22, 1984. From what I understand, you have a pretty extensive knowledge of your family tree. Is my grandfather anywhere on there?

I have some Quaker Cox ancestors that were from Holly Springs, Randolph Co., North Carolina

I'm working on a Cox line in northern Mississippi (Tishomingo and Alcorn counties). I'm still cleaning up the Mississippi mess, so to speak, but the family originally hails from South Carolina and came through Alabama before stopping in Mississippi in the 1850's.

I am a descendant of William Cox who served in the American Revolution. He was from NJ/NY. I have extensive records on some of his descendants.
I have a copy of the book "The Cox Family in America" by Henry Miller Cox and am willing to do look-ups if anyone is interested.

Hi Nancy, I am absolutely interested! My grandfather William James was born in Jersey City, New Jersey: his father's name was William Joseph Cox(36 at the time of the 1920 census), and his mother was Mabel Cox -maiden name Smyth or Smythe - (18 at the time of census). I really want to find out more of my lineage, through the Cox line as well as the Smythe/Smyth line - I think that if I can find out more about the Cox line, maybe I'll be able to find out more about the Smythe line, possibly through my grandfather's grandparents...

thanks so much for any help anyone can give me!
  • Trisha Cox Cissell

I am interested in finding out more about my family as well. My grandfather's name was John Howard Cox Jr. He was from Potts Camp, MS and was born in 1926 I believe.

Martha....he might tie in with your line....let me know if I can help in any way.

Joseph Cox (1811 KY or AL-1899 Chester County, Tennessee). Lived in Hardeman and McNairy Counties, Tennessee. His father was allegedly a guy named Daniel Cox, born 1761 NJ. I am looking for proof or even circumstantial evidence other than oral family history. I would love to find Daniel Cox in just one official record.
  • Deborah Ann (Dorscher) Anderson

I started a Cox group yesterday and found out you did to, I have deleted my Cox group and joining this one. My Cox's are from the Seattle, Washington area. This line is still in the early stages, they are still living and I haven't searched further back yet.
  • Jeanie DiLeonardo

My Cox family first shows up in Kentucky (Adair County, then Green County) in the 1810's-40's, then moved to Illinois (Morgan County, then Sangamon County).

Looking for the parents of William Cox b. 1804 in VA or NC and possibly lives in TN. I think with the info I have he may have been born in the area where VA, NC and TN all meet. That was also Cherokee Territory. His Mother I believe to be Native American. The only sibling I know of is a much younger brother Henry. Who moved to MO with William and also married the sister of William's wife. I find William in Sangamon County, ILL in the mid 1820's he marries Jane Hohimer in 1829 and then they move to Mo in about 1832. They stay in that area and he dies in 1871. I have a feeling he is part of a much larger group of Cox 's but I just can not get that connection, it is there but a piece is missing and so the other pieces I have just don't fit.

I am interested in an Annie J Cox b abt 1854 AL m 15 Feb 1872 to William Jackson in Bullock Co., AL. William died Oct 1873 leaving his wife pregnant with my grandfather. Annie remarried to John Boswell. They are on the 1880 Greenwood, Bullock, AL census with John and Annie's two sons. There was a third born later that year. John's sister-in-law Louisa E Cox lives with them. I think these women may be daughters of Levi Cox 1806 SC and Rebecca Susan UNK (married first a Thomas) who m 26 Nov 1847 Montgomery Co., AL. Annie died about 1883. Any information on this Cox group would be appreciated.

  • Terri Buster

My Cox ancestors were from Orange County North Carolina & Greenville County South Carolina. Earliest I have connected to is William Richardson Coxe, born about 1736 in North Carolina.
  • Corey Howard

I am tied into the Cox name thru Alma Cox and Emma Rebecca Cox, both children of William Cox and Rebecca Fox who came to the United States from Kettering, England in the late 1800s and settled in Spanish Fork, Utah.

    Howdy Cousins,

Glad to be a member of this group. I am also a descendant to John Needham Cox, Sr. I was named for his son, John Needham Cox, Jr. I have limited information on the Cox family in Southeastern North Carolina and Northeastern South Carolina. I also have y-DNA information (67 STR markers and some SNP markers) that has been verified by two fifth cousins who were also tested. If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to share what both what I know and what I think I know.

A group of us are looking for any descendants of Littleberry Cox & Mascilda Reddy. Littleberry was born in 1774 in Campbell County, VA and married in 1796 to Mascilda. Littleberry and Mascilda both died in Green County, KY. They have 6 children who made Kentucky their home.

We are looking for people to do a DNA test so we can prove some relationships. We have a lot of research to share and a few theories on Littleberry's ancestors.

    Tim
  • Nancy Denise Cox

So glad to find other Cox detectives. I am interested in William "Billie" Thomas Cox b. 1819 who married Sarah Ann Hammock b. 1824. They moved from Georgia to Chambers County Alabama around 1848/1849. I have much information on the family in Chambers but can not seem to make a connection to any line previous.
Family lore has it that 3 brothers came from New York to North Carolina then future lines on to Georgia and Alabama,
I will be happy to share any information I have and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good morning!  I have John Cox and Margaret Morris as parents of Rebecca Cox (and others) in Lincoln County, NC.  I believe they originated in NJ/PA.  It interests me what Morrises Margaret came from.  I'm almost certain she was not a child of Robert Morris (signer of DI).
