    Hi Jim,

We have a female Walker in our line. Here's the information on her:

    Elizabeth Walker (Thornton)
    1794 Edgefield SC
Siblings unknown at this time. Although we do know their children's names:
Nancy, Sallie, Emily, John (Jack) Walker, Samuel, Edmond. It is highly probable that their son John Walker was named after Elizabeth's father or brother. The only other possibility we know of is that William had a half brother named John G. also nicknamed Jackie.
We have a document to support proof of their marriage - william sold Jeriah Dillard 200 acres lying on the waters of Beaverdam Creek, Jan 13, 1818, and Elizabeth Thornton relinquished all her right and claim to her Dower to Jeariah Dillard, Jan 22 1819. Robert Walker signed as justice of peace (may have been a relative of Elizabeth's)
    William S. Thornton - husband. b. 1792 Edgefield SC

    Gene Ray,
Your posting is interesting. My Walker line is from VA, moved to northeastern GA in the 1790's, and on to Middle Tennessee probably around 1807. My direct ancestor in this line, Helton Rutherford Walker (b 1828), married Esther Elizabeth Thornton, and was said to have had some previous relationship with the family.

Esther Elizabeth Thornton's grandfather was Josiah Thornton, born abt 1779, South Carolina. I reside in SC, and am a professional genealogist, but have not worked on the Thornton line.
  • Gene Ray Thornton, Jr.

    Janis,

Not in our line. I think this Thornton was born/living in Spartanberg. We are part of the Quaker Thornton line. Our line goes back through NC and VA then England. Thank you for your reply!

I recently purchased at an auction in Tennessee, a box of old photographs, and letters from an Ohio estate. Among the artifacts, there was an 18th century silouette, paper over old black fabric, in what appears to be the original walnut frame. There is a name at the top of the picture of a man, Thornton Walker. I am interested in selling this cutting, but thought I would notify Walker descendants that this is available, before I try to sell it in the antique shop I rent a space in. There is also a fragment of paper that was on the back of the sillouette, that I would give to whomever buys the sillouette.
I may be contacted via e-mail, and can send a jpg, of the sillouette, at mountainmojo@skybest.com.

I am researching John Walker born in 1771 . Was in wool trade and manufacturer. He died April 15,1829.He married Rachel. I believe his son John Walker born 10 Nov 1802 had a drapery business in Halifax, England.

"I am researching John Walker born in 1771"

    Where was he born?
    What is Rachael's last name?
  • Katharine Auslander

The info on John and Rachel Walker came from notes in the family Bible so I am not sure where John and Rachel were born or her maiden name. They seem to have known and therefore are likely related to Thomas Andrew Walker (1828-1889), chief contractor of the Severn Tunnel project. His father(Robert Walker) was born about 1789 in Scotland.
  • Jill Stepp Johnston

My Walkers go back from my grandmother, Clara Helen Walker 1907-1990 who married William E Stepp 1895-1971 (both born in Greenbrier, Bollinger Co., Missouri. Both buried in Toledo, Lewis Co. WA.
Her father George Alfred Walker 1877-1934 (born in Pulaski Co., MO) who married Minta Wilde 1884-1970 (born in Greenbrier). George is buried in Sturdivant, Bollinger Co., MO; Minta Brinkman (she had remarried), in Toledo, Lewis Co., WA.
George's father: John William Walker 1854-1924 (born in Greene Co., Indiana) & married to Nancy Embry .
John's father: Hardin Walker 1828--1884 (born in Greene Co., IN) married Mariah Bockover 1832-1906, born in Ohio). Hardin died in Stoderville, Cape Girardeau Co., Missouri; Maria died in Bollinger Co., MO.

I know that several of Clara's brother & sisters lived in the Alton, Madison Co., Illinois area.

    Any info would be welcome!

I have no idea where my Walker ancestors lived in Scotland. Is there any website where I can find out where Walkers resided? Supposedly, our ancestors had a castle/home called "Toaping Castle" in Scotland, but have not been able to verify that. Any suggestions? I will be traveling to Scotland next summer (2011) and would like to locate where they were from before I go.

For information about their new home in the colonies built by the Walker brothers and named for the original Toaping Castle, go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toaping_Castle This may give you a start in tracing it in Scotland (thank goodness for handy-dandy Google searching. "Try it; you'll like it").
  • Gary Smith

I came across this posting that may help clarify the Walker family lore about Toaping Castle: http://members4.boardhost.com/pghistory/msg/1278612322.html

I know very little about my maternal grandfather. His name was Newton Walker. My mom was born in Houston, Mississippi in 1917 and grew up in Pulaski, Columbia and Nashville, Tennessee. My grandfather died in 1960 - so I would guess he was born in the late 1800's. Any information would be very much appreciated.

Help!  I descend from a Martha Jane "Mattie" Walker, whose daddy's name was James (and there are records on about a thousand James Walkers in every county in the USA).  From censuses and other stuff, I have learned that Martha Jane Walker was born in 1851, 1853, and 1855...in IN, IL, and MO!  She died 14 July 1927, and is buried in Tucumcari Memorial Park, Quay Co NM. NM cannot locate her Death Certificate, and neither can I.  She was married 10 October 1873 in MO to Andrew Baker Simpson.

About the most solid clue I have is that she lived in Millsap, Parker Co TX, from roughly 1875 until about 1901, and that one of her nieces-by-marriage, Ollie Justus, married William DIllard Goen.  Like I said...HELP!

Pj Sisseck  ODD I looked in online NM death index and Andrew is listed but not Martha, even looked under maiden name just in case.

Jeffrey Hinkle  have you found out anything since your post below looking for info on Newton Walker? Who did he marry?  what's your mom's name? they would be on the 1920 census 3 yrs after her birth.... and then 1930. • Lisa A. (Thamm) Spegal

  • Charlene Walker Doucet

My name is Charlene and I've been researching my family tree for about two years now. I'm trying to track back to my 4th paternal G.G. who was possibly born in Europe (England or Scotland) or may be an American Indian? I don't know is first name (unknown Walker) but his son's name is John Curtis Walker (1797-1869) born in Hopewell, Somerset County, MD. He married Lydia Whaley (born 1810) in either MD or VA. Their children are: Henry (John), Hester A., Zachariah, Nathan, Sarah Jane and Ferlilia, all born in Somerset County, MD., living in Brinkleys District, Somerset County, MD. I hope you can help. I am at a dead-end in my line. It's been passed down in my family that we are of American Indian descent. I'm not sure if I can't find this Walker because he may be an Indian?  I hope someone out there can shed some light on my family tree

  • Pj Sisseck
