I am researching a Turner line which went from Southern Illinois to Missouri to Arkansas and finally to Southwestern Indiana.
William Turner B1835 IL - Edward B Turner 1867 IL - Elijah Israel Turner B1897 MO
William Israel Turner B 1922 Posey County IN.
Samuel Turner from Virginia was my Father. He met my mother in the summer/fall of 1929, It was summer romance. I was born in May of 1930. My mother only told me his name and that he was from Virginia. My y-dna only matches Turner surnamed individuals. My surname is that of a stepfather who adopted me.
James, you do have a pickle, don’t you? Any ideas as to where your mother met him? Or if he was about the same age as her? Below are all the boys named Samuel Turner on the 1920 census of Virginia born between 1900-1914. Since you were adopted, you might be able to contact the state where you were adopted and see if you can get the record.
Unfortunately, trying to find Samuel may be like looking for a needle in a haystack. If the right Samuel Turner is on the list below, finding the right one may be impossible, unless he signed a release for adoption or your mom had more info she didn’t tell you.
Samuel Turner David, Abigail, Garden, Buchanan, Virginia abt 1902 Virginia White Son
Samuel Turner Beauregard, Annie, Lower West, King William, Virginia abt 1907 Virginia White Son
Samuel Turnes [Samuel Turner] Joe T, Elizabeth, Boykins, Southampton, Virginia abt 1910 Virginia White Son
Samuel R Turner Charles E, Minnie, Laurel Fork, Carroll, Virginia abt 1900 Virginia White Son
Samuel E Turner James W, Sarah E., Jerusalem, Southampton, Virginia abt 1904 Virginia White Son
Samuel M Turner Joseph A, Mary M., Christiansburg, Montgomery, Virginia abt 1909 Virginia White Son
Samuel C Turner Edward M, Maggie P., Laurel Fork, Carroll, Virginia abt 1910 Virginia White Son
Samuel W Turner William B, Kate E., Snow Creek, Franklin, Virginia abt 1914 Virginia White Son
Alan, could you also give us more to go on. I’m not sure if your looking for extended family, or exactly what. Or do you already have a lot of info on them and want to go farther back?

I'm looking for info on Turner's from VA. I've found quite a bit of info, but still have some holes in it. The line I'm studying includes Shadrack (married to Ann Pollard Hill) and Samuel (married to Nancy Stovall). I've also found some info for Turners from KY, but they are distantly related and I haven't gotten that far yet. :)
Keri - My problem is that I have no information except a DNA profile that indicates that my male ancestors were surnamed Turner. My mother was a secretive woman and raised me to believe that my father was a man named Clarence Barter. However my birth certificate listed my father as Patrick Flanagan. My mother was a housekeeper for him and his two daughters when I was born. she once told me he was a nice man that let her use his name on my birth certificate. When I was 18 I had my name legally change to Barter because that was the name I had been known by. About that time my mother told me that my real father was a man named Samuel Turner, and that he was a gentleman. At the time of my conception (fall of 1929) my mother was living in Portland, Maine. She apparently met Samuel Turner there. I have scoured the city directories for the Portland area for several years each side of 1929 without finding any mention of Samuel Turner. My assumption is that he must have been a summer visitor or an itinerant worker. My mother was born in 1908 in Georgetown, Maine. I would assume that Samuel Turner was born somewhere between 1900 and 1915. She died in 1972 without ever telling me anything that would help pin this down. If there were DNA results for Samuel Turners, from Virginia, born in the early 1900s or from his male relatives or other progeny it might be helpful. If it wasn't for the DNA results I might have suspected that the information about Samuel Turner was false. Of course she might have been wrong about where he came from. So many possibilities, so few clues. This is all I have.
hi all, i'm looking for relatives to my grandfather Myron Albert Turner. He was born in Burlington VT. in 1916. He had several brothers one of which was an Edsen Turner( edsen may have been his father?). He married a Mary Cook from Virginia, who's mother was originally from Franklin County NY. He (Myron Turner) eventually moved to Halifax County, NC during the great depresson, and that is where he and his family settled. I'm hoping to find some of his sibling relatives who are still alive, and to find out if anyone has a clue to where my grandfather's original family came from. It seems that at one time before his death, he had mentioned that he came from French Canadian heratige?
