Hi Nancy,
My Father was born and raised in Knox Co., Ky an area known as Bimble, that's between Barbourville and Pineville. My Father said when he was growing up there were other Powell's in the area but they did not know each other. He always assumed there were two family's of Powell's. I so far find no connection to Ambrose Powell who came to the area with Dr. Thomas Walker, they built the first house in Ky. The location of the home is on the way to cumberland falls. My Powell's have lived in that area in the late 1700s up til today. I do know my Powell's come from North Carolina before they came to Ky.
Nancy, my Elijah, was born 1753 and died 1831. I show Elijah had a son Levi born 1799 and died 1862.
Elijah, father was Henry Powell, born 1720. I think there might be a connection because there were not many people living in that area during the 1700s and there were not many roads to travel by and they had Indians to deal with. The roads they traveled were made from Native American Indians, most were along creeks and rivers.
I have 1000s of records and information to cross check. I will look into your names and see what I might find.
I would love to exchange info with you. My email is dennis_powell58@yahoo.com
Happy to hear from you and hope this is the beginning of new family discovery's.
To Any Powell's that are connected here I have a site called Picasa Web Album with photos and documents.
Nancy Powell, Gary Powell, and Dwight Smith please check it out and let me know what you think and if you like to add something. Thanks to Gary Powell who told me about this site to develop what I have added there.
Rev. Powell, I hope that I can get some Info on the Native American Ancestry. Rebecca Powell, married Edmond Gray. After Edmond Died during the Civil War, She moved in with a Family called Sattan, and She and her Son's Alexander, and Edmond Gray.. At the Home they wre listed as Mullato... Would like to know if there is anything that shows, Mary Linn Powell as being native American.
