left : ggg grandfather Attorney James Madison Gordon ( 1810-1875)-- judge in Boone County and a Missouri state legislator. His father David Gordon ( 1770-1849 ) was one of the founders of Columbia, Missouri. His maternal uncle, John Boyle ( 1774-1835 ) became Chief Justice of Kentucky in 1810. The portrait of Judge Gordon was painted by the famed American artist George Caleb Bingham.
right : Cornelia Gordon Williams ( born 1846 )-- the daughter of Attorney James Madison Gordon by his free live in mulatto mistress, Henrietta Robinson Gordon ( born 1815 ). Cornelia was the mother of my great grandfather Arthur Strawn ( 1861-1923 ).
