Hi Jennifer,

I am hoping that you are the same Jennifer Lieder that left a message on another forum over ten years ago.  In that message you stated that your gg grandfather was Elias Halberstadt, and you were seeking info from a book an elderly gentleman had written about Anthony Halberstadt.  Does this ring any bells?  In any case, my gg grandmother, Eliza Halberstadt Plaine, was Elias' older sister.  She married Jonathan Plaine and stayed in Carroll County, Maryland.

I am hoping that you have had some luck in tracing their father, Peter Halberstadt's parentage.  Other then mentions of him in biographies and obituaries of Eli, Georg Maus' will and the disposition of his own estate in 1835 I have been unable to locate any information on Peter or his lineage.

I have researched the Halberstock/Halberstick's of York/Adams county PA because that is the area the Maus family lived in prior to moving to Carroll County but I could not find a link.

I was also unable to find any connection between the Anthony Halberstadt line and Peter.  They seem to have bypassed Maryland on their way to Indiana.

In a prior generation I do have an Uncle of Jonathan Plaine who married a woman who's mothers maiden name was Margaret Holverstat(t), there were others in Carroll/Frederick MD with that last name but they immigrated to Ohio @ 1812.  I have been unable to find out anything about this Margaret's parents or a link between herself and Peter.

I am hoping that you have figured out this riddle and can help me out or at least point me in the right direction on this common ancestor of ours!

Thanks,

Diane Kennally
