Mary Udell Bates, Townsend, Norfolk, Ontario
I am searching for information on Mary Udell of Townsend Township, Norfolk County, Ontario, Canada. She how up in the 1851 Canadian census, married to Gilbert Bates. They had several children there and moved to Michigan round 1858.
Her parents were born in Canada as stated in subequent US censuses. I have also seen one newspaper reference of Mary Youdell married to Gilbert Bates, so I am not ure of the spelling. Any help would be appreciated.

Mike - Have you checked the early 1842 "census" for Norfolk County? See the Norfolk Co. GenWeb pages for details. Many areas had early census/tax assessment records and you may find these helpful in your search.
You should also check John Cardiff's Norfolk Co. pages -

Hi Lorine,
I have not been able to find the 1842 census online although I find a reference to it on the Norfolk Co. GenWeb site. There seems to be very little on Udell or Youdell in Ontario. Mary Udell is one of my stumbling blocks. Gilbert was from New York, born ~1795; Mary was from Canada,born ~1811. Thank you very much for the help. -
