Looking for parents of Lilly Mae Hutchison. My great great grandmother was Lilly Mae HUTCHINSON born 1870 possibly in Ohio or Indiana. She died on 20 December 1908 at the age of 38, Natchez,MS according to sextons (?) records. Her husband was Joseph Randall POULTER and they were married abt. 1894. I don't know where or when, but somewhere between Indiana and Mississippi. Their children were William Ralph POULTER born 3 December 1894,Vaun POULTER born 25 Decmeber 1897, Josephine POULTER born 1902, Joseph Waldo POULTER ROBERTS (adopted by a neighbor) born 4 August 1904.
I believe that her second son's first name is a clue and that Lilly Mae's mother may have been a VAUGHN. Does anyone know of a HUTCHINSON male who married a VAUGHN female in this time frame?Any help would be greatly appreciated.

GeneJ, I am amazed. Thank you so much for your help. I have looked several times on Ancestry.com and never found this info. I might be a little closer to finding her parents now.
Yes,Joseph Randall (RANSDELL)POULTER born August 1865 was my great great grandfather and the son of Joseph POULTER (son of Ransdell POULTER & Eliz. GRITTON) and Harriet A. STEWART (James STEWART & Mildred). Later siblings were Lucinda married 1st Sherman PERCIFIELD and 2nd Samuel RHODES and Isabelle married Lemuel BREEDLOVE.
Sorry it has taken so long for me to get back to you. I have been trying to browse the 1880 census of Brown County,IN on ancestry.com. It is very frustrating as it takes so long to download one page of the census. I am trying to browse it because they don't have any listings for any HUTCHISON or variations and on the third page Anna HUTCHISON appears with a couple of her children, listed as widowed. Clearly there are people on the census that will not come up when searched for. I will have to see if I can get a copy of Joseph R. POULTER and Lilly Mae HUTCHISONs marriage record. I am hoping her father or another relative is listed on there.
Thanks for your reply and tips on researching GeneJ. I wish I had more time to devote to looking and that my computer had more RAM! {:-D
I don't have too much confidence in my logging skills, but if you want to take a stab at it that would be great.I do use MSWord. I did find one May HUTCHISON born abt 1870 living in Center,Marion,Indiana. Parents were Frank born Indiana and Ella born Kentucky. Sisters were Minnie and Martha. I have not found any Lillies in Indiana. Til next time...........Cindy
GeneJ, I have never found Lillie on any census. I find it strange and then of course she died in 1908. If my great grandfather was born in Natchez,MS (1894) then you would think she would have been there in 1900 and she did die in Natchez. I appreciate your help, but I don't know if she can be found unless she lived in another house and her name is spelled completely wrong. Thanks again,Cindy
This Joseph is my great great grandfather and he is listed with his older brother James (whom I have never found a marriage for either) listed at the wrong age of course (born in 1859,first child I know of in this family). If you find Lillie anywhere it will be a miracle because I have been looking for her for years. I even looked under the name Galden or Golden because on her son Vaun's (Vaughn) death certificate (born 25 Dec 1897 died 26 March 1918-occupational pneumonia) her name is listed as Lillie Galden. In addition,Joseph and Lillie's only daughter Josephine died at the age of 33,so only my great grandfather and his brother who was adopted by the Roberts family of Natchez,MS lived to any great age.
I don't know if you still want this info or not. Vaughn Poulter was buried in Natchez City Cemetery-public ground marker no. 60. Info for his parents was Joe Poulter and Lillie Galden or Golden both born Indiana. I was wrong before, cause of death was Labor pnemonia, contributory cause-Emphysema. That is so sad to see that someone would die of such a thing at age 20. I don't know of the burial place for Lillie. I don't know where Josephine was in 1910 (maybe with one of her aunts in Indiana),but I found her in Indiana as an inmate when she was a teenager so must have been in 1920(?). I don't know if it was an asylum or if it was a reform school (maybe). At the time of her death she was at Eastern State Hospital,Williamsburg,VA. Cause of death was listed as Psy. with mental deficiency and contributory cause was Accidental burns from hot water. All info on parents and their place of birth is listed as unknown and info for the death cert. was from commitment papers. There must be adoption papers on Joseph Waldo Poulter ROBERTS,but his own son couldn't get access to them so I am thinking I can't either. I was in contact with him for a couple of years before he passed away. I have lots of census papers here it is just that I have to look through them to find the ones I need. I guess you don't really need all this now that there is a new direction for the search.
I just meant that it may help to search for her since we know a possible birthplace for her parents. I looked around a little this afternoon, but didn't find anything that I haven 't seen before. I once thought I had found Lillie and that her parents were Ucklit (Euclid)Hutchinson and his wife Sophia of Muskingum,Ohio, but a descendant of hers let me know that she wasn't my Lillie.
Randall,Thanks so much. It looks like Walter is Josephine's brother Joseph Waldo.
Joseph R POULTER probably still had some family living in Indiana at that time. His sister Lucinda POULTER PERCIFIELD RHODES lived her whole life in Brown County,IN (born 1872 died 1965). She is the only one I know of that did stay there until she died. As far as Virginia goes, that is where my great grandfather ended up and that is where he met my great grandmother and the rest is history {:-D. He died in Virginia Beach in 1970. At the time of Josephine's death it was stated in her obit that she lived with my great grandfather even though she was married at some point (married name was DAVENPORT). It was not mentioned that she was at Eastern State Hospital at the time of her death. If some of these replies seem out of place I apologize. I am starting to get mixed up when I answer them.Oops!
I am the Grandson Of Joseph Waldo Poulter (Roberts). He was adopted by Sissy Roberts in the early 1900's in Natchez Mississippi. She also had 2 son's that drown at a relativley early age.
