For Mary Taylor Ferrando, in response to a Sep 2, 2009 posting:
There are censuses earlier than 1851, they are not all for all of Canada, some are very localized; i.e. 1818 census for Cape Breton Island. The earliest census in Québec was 1666.
You didn't say where in Canada East (Québec) your William WILSON was from.
Here is a link to some earlier Québec records, not all census though. http://www.genealogysearch.org/canada/quebec.html
The earlier censuses usually listed just the head of house by name. Québec has extensive genealogy records, not all of which are online.

Collections Canada has Land Petitions for Lower Canada, I did a search for the surname WILSON and got 248 hits, if you know your William WILSON's father or grandfather you could narrow the search.

I hope this helps.

For Mary Taylor Ferrando, in response to a Sep 2, 2009 posting: As far as I know, there was no Canadian census before 1851, but have you tried looking at the Drouin Collection on ancestry.com? It is a collection of early church records, both protestant and Catholic, for Quebec. I couldn't find any William P. Wilson when I looked, but there are several William Wilsons born on either side of 1824. The only birth that shows up as indexed in 1824 is for a Charles William Wilson, born Quebec City.

Is there any Polish Census available for 1890 and/or 1900?

Finn, thanks for the info. I was able to see my great-aunts husband coming to N.Y.C from Liverpool in 1918 on the ship Cretic and my great-aunt Carmen Aponte arriving in NYC in 1922 from San Juan on the family search site, but unfortunately I could not find any info. for them in Argentina. I did find some Alegranza's that could be family of my aunt's husband but at this point I do not have enough information to make the connection. Thanks for your help.

Also a big thanks to all who posted pilot.familysearch.org -- it didn't help with the shriner brick wall, but I did find a lot of my husband's Carr relatives in WV -- including his dad's 1st two marriages and the death of a half sister.

I'm still looking for George Shriner (b. May 1885 d. Nov 1964) (more infor post in other groups and as a blog on my page), but my question is --- Is it possible for someone to avoid the 1910, 1920 and 1930 or am I just not thinking clearing on how the name was spelled back then. I've been going page by page but still no luck.
