Looking for Collinses in my granddad's family tree line, from Lower Lissane and Tooreen in Caheragh parish.
John Humphrey Collins (1895 - 1988) married Mary Collins in 1923. His parents were Humphrey Michael Collins (1858-1910) and Margaret McCarthy (1860-1906). Humphrey Micky's parents were Michael Collins (1822-1901) aka Micky and Ellen Driscoll.
We are unsure of the origins of Micky, and I don't have much to go on besides a Caheragh RC parish baptism record of 8-Sep-1822, listing parents Humphrey Collins and Ellen Sweeney, with godparents Brian McSwan? and Margaret Ahern. The residence is listed as Blue Hill (Knockgorm). Margaret Ahern was likely married to another Collins in Knockgorm.
My current working hypothesis is that Micky's mother died and his father remarried to a Mary O'Brien. There were at least two patriarchal Humphrey Collinses in the east Caheragh and Drimoleague area in the early to mid 19th century but land records only show one as far as I can tell. Baptism records indicate otherwise. Micky materialized in Lower Lissane and by these records appears to be the son of Humphrey Collins and Johanna Barnane of Lower Lissane but there is no baptism record proving as such. To add to the confusion there is a non-paternity event in this line, which I suspect involves Micky or his father Humphrey.
Morning, Just a quick introduction from me before I rush off to work. We now live in Tenerife, although from the UK originally. My wife's ancestors on her Dad's side were from Ireland, Chute (Cork) and Graham (Leitrim).

The O'Mahony Society January 2012 newsletter has just been published. It includes a report by Dr. Finbar O'Mahony on the results so far from their ongoing Y-DNA study. Overall, the newsletter makes good reading.
Dia Diut,
My maternal Irish family is of the Dunmanway, Cork area which I have been researching since 1996. With the help of extended family members, here in the US and in Ireland, our research has lead us to much success in locating our passed ancestors and newly aquainted cousins.
Although the names in the family have extended to many, Murphy, Dullea and Regan are my main family names.
Good luck to all who are researching Cork.
Slan lait,
Murphy
Kilmeen Tithe Applotment draft transcription also now online. More details here.
