I think Adm has had problems like this before with this member. The member doesn't show their email nor do they allow postings on their bio page. The only way to ask for corrections is via the new suggest a correction feature. I'm not related to the memorials but trying to photograph and correctly record some small historial cemeteries.

Julie,

You can also contact findagrave at info@findagrave.com. Explain your relationship to the person and the problem. They may be able to help. List the link to the memorial and the person you created it, explaining that you are having difficulty getting a response or any help from him/her.

I agree with Joyce. Before I did that I would click on the manager's name and Leave a Public Message telling them that it is important to you that the information be accurate and unless they correct the site (or transfer ownership) you will put up a dup with the correct information. I would also start a thread on a public forum there about the problem (http://www.findagrave.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=57&page=1) and contact info@findagrave.com. If all else fails, put up your dup and forget about the other one.

I would make a dup and put a note in there that the reason for the dup is that the other person would not make the corrections.

This person doesn't transfer (unfortunately.)

Julie,
Request to take over management of that gravesite. I have never been refused.

I have a question. I have sent several corrections to a contributor. What they tend to do instead of adding the info in, is put it in the bio section: "per----- they were born, died etc." This is very frustrating esp. when the photo I put on the memorial clearly shows the correct info, or when the submitter didn't put in a surname, only a first name. I hate to create a duplicate but the memorial is unsearchable the way they listed it. (this has happened many times.) Ideas?

Chip I agree to that about it being more common today. I check census, tax records, other records and found that legally the woman did carry their husbands name.. and I am checking records here in York Co, Sc going back to the Rev War. The women are known by their husbands surname on legal papers. It seems to be more of a social arrangement. I guess you could say.. and I found some of these as far back as 1810 that were still fairly readable

This practice is somewhat more common today than it was in the past one or two generations, I have found. So many women no longer take the husband's name in marriage. This is great for genealogists but can lead to confusion for the children. Are the children of Adam Smith and Eve Jones named Smith, Jones, Smoth-Jones or Jones-Smith? It has also been found in studies that 80% of these children drop one name or the other (usually the mother's) before their 18th birthday, usually through "common usage" but sometimes legally just because it gets too cumbersome. And what would the children of Able Smith-Jones and Rachel Jones-Smith be called? Smith-Jones-Jones-Smith? My head hurts already! But back to the point, at least out there in the upper left corner you begin to see modern tombstones with "Eve Jones, wife (or partner) of Adam Smith"
