Hi Barbara,
Sorry I guess what I said wasn't too clear, the photo of Minnie that is online is fairly dark looking because it was faded and there is a lot of dark crazing and other time damage on the photo - enhancing it so that her features were more visible made the problem worse and I think makes her complexion look darker than it probably was in actuality. I've learned a lot more about how to scan and enhance old photos so I definitely need to redo that one. I don't believe her coloring very dark at least not compared to my grandmother. I think Minnie had light eyes, blue or green perhaps, and light to medium brown hair. My grandmother, her daughter, was the one with fairly dark coloring. Minnie's other daughter, Miriam Riddle, had dark hair when she was young but her complexion looks to be more medium in the photos that I have. I think my grandmother looks almost as though she had hispanic bloodlines or perhaps even some mulatto in her background. My grandmother had a similar shape nose as Minnie's nose but my father had a totally different nose shape and yet not like his father either. I have a couple of other family photos but they are unmarked one is fairly old of a man who may be Albert Standish, Minnie's father, and he and my brother bear quite a resemblance. There is a photo of a woman who looks a bit like Minnie but much heavier in the face so I am wondering if she might not be Minnie's mother or her sister - again unmarked photo :-(
One other thing, a while back on a couple of the census on Ancestry I found a man named James Thompson I believe born in 1870 who was apparently a long term patient in one of the hospitals (sanitarium?) in the Columbus area - I think he was there until the 1920's or so. He said he born in Ireland not Ohio and the info I've collected on my grandmother and her sister reflect the father's birth place as Ohio. I did try to see if I could obtain more information on the man and even checked to see if he might have had a burial on the hospital grounds but so far no leads. Being shut away some place might account for a disappearance too back then they would sometimes commit people for having things like epilepsy as well as mental illness. I also need to follow up on some of the other leads you have suggested. I work on genealogy for a while and then life gets busy which drags me away and when I come back I seem to have forgotten which path I was on.
I just saw that Ida Bertha Fuhr died in Los Angeles CA on Aug 30 1943 and was born Jun 27 1869 Ohio, father surname Fuhr and mothers maiden name Bushman. I hope this helps. Barbara
Also she is on the 1880 census as Ida B. Fuhr living in Ulhrichsville Tuscarawas Ohio in household of Philip Fuhr. Barbara
