Hi Barbara,

Received your messages. I found a bit of marriage information for Minnie Standish and James Thompson on Family Search:

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=recordimage...

It just gives their names and a date and place - 19 May 1892, Franklin County, OH. That's as much as I've located though.

I can't remember if I asked you this question (I don't find it looking back through the posts) does the name Louise mean anything to you? The reason I ask is that I have a very old photo of Minnie and a young girl and on the back written in pencil is a notation that appears to read "1872 Minnie and Louise" I can barely make it out because the name is so faded but it does appear to be Louise and that was my grandmother's middle name so I'm wondering if she was given the name after that Louise. There was a Louise Moses, related to Minnie's mother Sarah but she died before 1872 so it wouldn't have been her.

Another note, my grandmother had olive skin and fairly dark features - dark brown eyes and hair, as did my father (his father was of German descent and was quite fair). but viewing photos of Minnie she is not as dark in coloring so I'm inclined to think that James Thompson may have had darker coloring (accounting for the Spanish/Irish thing). Or not, until I can locate more information about him I won't know.

Thanks for your thoughts on this!

Roberta

My James Thompson was much older then the James that probably married Minnie Standish but I can't shake the feeling that there is a connection. Margaret Pratt was married to a James Thompson b. 1824 in VA. Margarets sister Charlotte (my gr gr great grandmother) states in a letter in 1889 she has not heard from her sister in a long time and is worried. There is no death date for Margaret Pratt Thompson or for her husband James Thompson on the 1900 census. Is it possible that Margaret Pratt died about 1890 and James remarried Minnie Standish in 1893 and then died of old age? He was not Irish and Spanish thought. :-) Barbara

There is an entry for a Reuben James Thompson who died Mar 22 1900 in Columbus, Ohio, machinist, parents Reuben Thompson and Margaret Thompson, born 1874. It could be Minnie Standish's husband but? no proof.

Roberta: My James Thompson lived in Millcreek, Union, Ohio on the 1840 census. There is a Joseph Thompson in Millcreek, Union Co, Ohio who has a son James Thompson in about 1875. This could be a family group to look at for common ancestors.

The date of birth for Elizabeth Pratt is 1814 Virginia based on census. I don't know her maiden name but it could be Goodrich. I will look into the other James Thompson but common names don't often lead to neat connections:-(

Hi Barbara & Darlene,

Thanks for responding. Darlene, sorry I did not see this message sooner - I sometimes don't always view the messages from GenealogyWise because it isn't possible to know if it is a response to one of my posts so I apologize for the delay in responding. My grandmother's name was Hazel Louise Thompson, she was born in 1893. There was a second daughter, Gladys Standish Thompson born in 1895. She died in 1905.Their parents were James Thompson and Minnie Estelle Standish (1872-1914). James and Minnie may have been married in 1892. Minnie was the daughter of Albert H Standish and g-granddaughter of William Hammett Standish. I would be most appreciative of any help locating information on James Thompson. He is gone from the family by 1900 because Minnie and the children were living with her parents at that time. Minnie states on that census that she is married but there is no husband with the family group. Minnie's second marriage was to Abner E Riddle about 1906. The only thing my grandmother said about her father was that he was Irish and Spanish. She told my mother that when I was a baby and my mother was putting family information into my baby book. That is all the information I have about James Thompson. My grandmother left no information or records about her father, she may not have known him very well.

Barbara, happy to meet you. I am descended from William H. Standish and his first wife, Mary Rice. They were married in Rhode Island, 24 Dec 1815. She died in 1821. William married Harriet Haven, 2 Nov 1823 and she died about 1855. I didn't have a marriage date for William and Elizabeth so I am pleased to learn that date. Do you happen to know her date of birth? Was Pratt her maiden name? Since your Pratt family had a connection to the Thompson family and Standish family I am wondering if there could indeed be a connection to the James Thompson who married Minnie Standish and was the father of my grandmother.

Hi. James Thompson married Margaret Pratt secondly after his first wife Barbara Layman died, Oct 19 1863 in Delaware Co, Ohio. Margaret Pratt is my great great aunt. Her mother Elizabeth Ann Pratt married William Hammett Standish after her first husband Jacob died in 1854, on Mar 3 1857. I can provide more info on this family. James and Margaret had Frederick Charles Thompson Jan 1865, Lucinda Aug 1869, Hannah Thompson 1872, John Llellwyn Thompson on Aug 1 1874 and William Ray Thompson Sep 1879. James Thompson had 7 children with his first wife, Margaret raised some of them.
