SUCCESS STORY: This morning in the discussions surrounding the GenTrek presentation, Dawn and some others were discussing the use of city directories. I do use them, but this discussion was opportune.
About 2 hours after the chat, my sister asked during a phone call if I knew where the 1920s parsonage of a family friend had been. I said I'd look into it. We hung up and I went to footnote (because I knew they had St. Louis City directories); in about 5 minutes I had located the family in 1917 and 1923. Very fast search and good find.
While these folks were friends and not family line the technique applies for this type of search whatever your reason.
A SUCCESS story for Genealogy Wise and for the Chat Room, so thank you all.

Sunday is a tough night. (And we thought Friday and Saturday were killers!) All three are difficult to attract an audience.
I can think of one area you may wish to promote your Pennsylvania Chats: Twitter.com. Include the tag, #genealogy, so lurkers will be alerted.

What am I doing wrong? For the last month and a half I havfe been doing a Pennsylvania Chat. The most who show up and introduce themselves has been 6 or 7. I appreciate Gena mentioning these chats in her blog as well as showing the schedules here and on the Chat tab.
I have been mentioning them in the Anabaptist Group, the Pennsylvania Group and here each week. I am not new to hosting chats, having hosted on AOL and on Genealogy Lookup Forum.
Any suggestions for getting more people to my chats? Could it be that less people are actually following each post in the Discussion Groups.

I will be off line for quite a while as I have to find a new home a place to stay.. My Thea and son wants Me gone.. but still my son wants to remain My son.. but Thea My ex-fiance wants to call it quits. so I will be cone for a while

Just a reminder, tonight Sunday is my chat about The Ephrata Cloisters, an interesting religious group who settled in Lancaster Co. PA Everyone is invited. Please come, listen and discuss.
To echo Dae's comments, a chat room experience is networking. So far I have done 6 chats on Sunday nights. Usually I just cut and paste my presentation. Then I will get requests for copies of the presentation. That is fine with me, but we are here to network and exchange ideas. A chatroom host is alot like a talk show host. What frustration when he can't get his guests to say anything. My 2cents.

Hi Sue!
There is a reason we don't place transcripts in the Chat Transcripts section. We want to encourage folks to attend the CHATS. We wish to promote the Networking Stage for everyone to grow. We could simply create a newsletter and each week send out an article, but this doesn't invite dialog, does it? I do have several of our presentations on my web site, ShoeString Genealogy. There are over 100 that are not there, yet. Some are under consideration by genealogy publications and others are not there by request of the author.
Gena has offered to transcribe our presentations and we've no problem with that, but we don't want them posted on ANY web site primarily for reasons expressed here.
We understand the requests to post the presentations and are delighted. Still, we will honor requests for copies for personal use by those who ATTEND the chats.

I love the GenWise Chats. They are very educational (and also great fun). I have been at two chats. This Sunday and Monday, I will return for the next topics at those chats.
I am making a notebook of the transcripts for the chats I have attended, so that I can go back and review what I have learned.
Can one request a transcript for the topics for which you do not already post them? I ask this, because other events may prevent me from attending a discussion which would be of particular interest to me.

I love the GenWise chats. They are great learning aids (and even greater fun). I have been to two of them and will go the the next topics on the same two this Sunday and Monday.
I am making a note book of the handouts, so that I can go back and refresh my memory.
But I have a question here: Is it possible to request the handouts ahead of time, if you know that you must miss a chat?
