Greetings to all! I am new here so I am sending out a little bit of info to all. I am researching in S. GA where my family has been for many, many years. I am fairly new to researching only about two years now and have discovered several interesting things so far.

Surnames of interest: Duncan, Pettyjohn, Martin, Byrd, Sparks, Blackburn

These are just the few that I have started with so far. Hope to hear from family out there.

My husband is a descendant of Tyre and Frances McAllister Chaffin. I have info on his direct line, as well as a few other lines. My husbands direct line is Tyre > Nathan Perry > William Franklin > Jason Manuel > Virgil Alexander.

I am looking for who the parents of Tyre are and as of yet have not had a lot of luck with that. But I am more than glad to share the info that I have at this time.

I do know that Tyre was born 23 January 1797 in VA. When he was about 7 years old his family moved to GA. and died in 1878 in Jasper Co. and is buried in Henry Co.

Welcome to Georgia Root Diggers Dianne & Woody!

I've setup a COBB County Discussion (for you both) and a CARROLL County Discussion (for you Woody). DEKALB County already exists.

Make sure to post your SURNAMES there so other researchers from the same areas can find you (and your Ancestors!:-) easily.

Dianne - we should also get a WHITFIELD & GILMER County Discussion going. I'm not sure they are represented as yet.

Happy Digging!:-)

Luckie.

I am researching the Guess family from, Cobb, Whitfield, Gilmer and Dekalb. My gr gr gr gr grandfather William Guess worked for the W & A railroad. He built one of the first Shanty houses in Kennesaw. He was a depot agent in Whitfield County. Anyone else searching for the Guesses.

Sherri - I am stumped on this one!:-)

I remembered this wrong. It's written Eli W.C.H.L. I think I remember seeing it transcribed on Ancestry as Eli W. (C.H.L.). It looks like initials, but the only names I've ever seen for him is Eli Warren, Eli, or Warren Cribb. Another researcher doubted that he was Sarah's son because of her age and since he is found in a later census with Helen and her husband, figured Helen was the mother. A family story says he was the son of Ezekial Cothern. I'm attaching a photo so you can look at it yourself if you like.

Sherry - look at this Rootsweb list of 1894 Census abbreviations - http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mistcla2/c_1894_Abbs.htm

CHL = Change of Life

But don't hold me to it!:-)

Sherri, I've never come across that designation.
