Serena, what other info do you have on Hans that would narrow down the time frame? Are we talking 20th century or something earlier? Did you find him a US census? Any one of them would give you an age from which you can approximate a birth year. Was he always living in the same town in all the censuses you have available--if so, that would probably be a good starting point for a death certificate. If he never lived in the US, did his children? Then, figure he was 20 or so years older than his youngest child.
I am trying to find Hans Christoph Carstens born in Ebstorf, Germany. I have no date of birth or death.
Oops! That should say the evangelische records for Venne.
For Wayne Vallowe--LDS has the evangelische (protestant) records for 1808-1871 on microfilm. You can rent it and view it at a family history center.
Have you seen this book? http://venne-in-america.de/

I am looking for information on Conrad Friedrich Vallowe from Venne, Lower Saxony, Germany and his wife Regine Dorothee Langkamp (same village). Information requested is parental.-Wayne
For some reason the link to the catalog didn't stick. Here it is again.

Thank you Marianne. That is a great help too.
I found Evangelical (protestant) church records for 1836-1857 for Konigshutte/Chorzow at Family Search Catalog. This is a microfilm you can rent and have sent to a Family History Center near you.
