I did the deed the other day, gedcom and then bang, changed genealogy programmes from Legacy to Family Tree Builder. All well, except FTB can't transfer photo's. I had THOUSANDS on there. Oh well something to do, and now I'm going through people and thinking "oh, I was going to chase that up about you". Went to the library to do some research for myself, was sitting at a computer while a group of older people learned how to use computers, one of whom I knew, and who was looking for an ancestor. The librarian had no idea, just suggested ancestry.com as first point of contact, the woman found nothing. End of class I go "psst - who were you looking for" and within about 60 seconds I had his war service file up, then another search and found this and that. Then she asked about this woman who was her brick wall, within about 15 minutes total I'd found the woman, when she died, where she died, her will and divorce. But I'm not a geneaholic because I didn't do my own work, just this womans, LOL.. Who'd have thought I'm tring to find this releative would be like a red rag to a bull? OK OK I ADMIT IT, I AM A GENEAHOLIC, AND I HAVE IT BAAAAAAAAAAAD!

Makes sense to me, Anett! I was talking about my husband's grandfather just below. I was having no luck finding Mary Mallonee but Mary Millhorn was turning up all over the place! Plus she was married to the man I thought was his father. I was so sure... But I guess it was not to be. I learned I can not change things to fit the way I want them to!

As a friend of my sez sometimes I think my relatives were in the witness protection program--no real names and place of birth--where? right now i am trying loose ends together and making sure the collective mess makes sense--does that make sense to anyone?

I am John Laws, a member of the Guild of One Name Studies, researching LAW, LAWE, LAWES, LAWS, LAWSE World-Wide though my own LAWS family came from the Stepney/Bethnal Green/Mile End area and were mostley Mariners, and my earliest is Henry son of John & Mary Laws from Walworth, fairly newly built when he was born in 1800.

Hi Everyone! My name is Bernadine and I am glad to see I am not as bad a geneaholic as I was thinking I was! I have been doing this a while but am really rather new. I love doing it when I have time but sometimes there are just not enough hours in the day! There has been several times I have found myself still sitting at this computer at 1:30am. Not too bad for summer. I am a "lunch lady" at an elementary school during the school year and I just can't stay up that late during the school week!

Here is the problem I have run into with my husband's family. Blackburn. I THOUGHT I had the direct line down. Then I was trying to prove things! I have all kinds of info for my husband's grandfather, Joseph William Blackburn. I have no idea who his parents are! The only info I have for that is Joseph's death certificate says Mary Mallonee. It says "no record" for father. Joseph was born Oct or Nov 1870 in Ohio and died 1956 in Dodge City Ks. The only info I can find for Joseph starts at 1898 when he went to the Spanish American War in Cuba. I suspect he's been in Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas. I am stumped. My husband has even taken a DNA test but that will only prove if we are in the right line or not. I can find no birth record, the only obit I can find gives next to no info. There is no will that can be found.

I saw a 50th wedding announcement in the paper. It had the wife had the maiden name of Mallonee! I was ridiculously excited! I wrote and mailed them a note!! I gave them my email address, mailing address and telephone number! Unfortunately, I have not heard from them. I tried to be nice and not scare them!!

This looks like an interesting group and I am looking forward to being a part. Have a sensational Sunday!

OK, I KNOW I posted to this group, but I've lost it, the post that is. I don't mind though I've been rereading everyone elses posts. Can I just say being a geneaholic aint all that bad, yes it keeps you poor, but you get to decorate your floor and walls with really interesting stuff, down side is, anytime I meet anyone over 80 I want to YELL at them "write it down, write it down.." Also when you go to a funeral you should get to the graveyard early, and do a quick search, that's not awful is it??? I am unique in Australia, literally, the only family with this surname. On the other hand I have Smiths and Browns and Reid/Reeds up the whazoo. I have 6000 plus people on my tree because I PRUNED it (yes I cried, but it had to be done). I stopped being a collector - someone who just shoves anyone and everyone on the tree without research, and I went back to my direct line only. Blood relatives or those who married them. Going back a few centuries of course. Now I'm gonig NUTS trying to PROVE they existed. Of course they did, we know they did, but boy it's hard to prove. I collect photo's of headstones, and want more inquests, but I have to travel to get them, that's not a BAD thing is it? To "normal" people it is, they think I'm weird for wanting headstone photos and inquests, but hey, it's still people isn't it. Oh let me off here, I could go on, and on, and on, but I've got family to catch, OK?

Then I'll say, "Hey, check this out! Did you know one of my ancestor's burned his wife at the stake in her wedding dress because he caught her being unfaithful with the goatherd!" (And he says, "she was being unfaithful with a GOAT!?! No wonder he burned her!! - bless his heart, he getting a little hard of hearing, but won't admit it....)
