Since I can't find anywhere else to put this query, I'll put it here. My family Bible is in terrible condition. The front pages as well as the cover are missing. I want to find out the date of publication. A torn page that appears to be the front page is titled, "The Old Testament translated out of the original tongues and with former translations diligently compared and revised". The earliest date in the records is 1866, but I'm pretty sure it was written much later. Can anyone help? Or even know where else to query? Thanks in advance.

HI all. After my mom pased away two years ago, I really got into genealogy because of the scrapbook she had of funeral notices, obituaries, and photo's of her parents and grandparents. That is all it took. I have been hooked every since and have loved it! I saw a photo in her album of my gr grandparents who had come over to Iowa from Sweden. My Grandma and all her siblings stayed in Ruthven Iowa area, therefore I visited my grandparents farm there when I was a child many times. I actually went there a year ago for a visit, and to bury my mothers ashes there with her family in Crown Hill Cemetery. Three of my sisters came along with me.

I drilled my mothers cousins for information. They loved telling the few things they remembered. In my mom's photo's was a photo of my gr grandparents standing in front of their house. I found the house, and had a photo taken of me right where they were standing! That was thrilling for me.

Anyway - I am really excited about this new site.

Torill is absolutely correct; my husband and I have started doing so. He is scanning in all our non-digital photos a few at a time. Together we are organizing them into folders (some for our genealogy software to handle, others just as albums. There will be comments and stories. And we will burn them to disk. And distribute them to family.

I think it is important that we today also think about doing something with our pictures. With digital cameras and lots and lots of pictures taken......

If you have names, places, stories behind, the picture is much more valuable. Therefore we to have to register our snapshots and file them in a good system

I suffer from the same symptoms as the rest of you but I don't know that I could say I'm a GENEAHOLIC. Maybe I'm just in denial.
I only work on genealogy when I am awake and only do other's genealogy if they are remotely connected to my family or my wife's family or my ex-wife's family or someone asks me to or I ask them if I can.
So, I'm not that bad off.

I know most of my ancestors that I care about but there is always a little more to learn so I keep looking for other info.

I did this too. I actually have an aunt (or maybe a cousin?) who is still living that I am going to talk to soon. I know she related but I honestly don't know how. I think she's my grandmother's cousin but I have to find out. I always called her "Aunt" so now I'm confusing myself. Actually, I just may go over there today ... hmm

My mother has a lot of very old photos as well. Sadly we do not know who a lot of them are. My mother now wishes she had had my grandmother identify them all before she died. Some appear to be from around the 1860's in England. A few were identified at least.

This is a good idea and I did try to do this many years ago when my Mom was alive as she could tell me names and places etc of her family. I asked her to write down what she could for me but sadly that wasn't to be. I did inherit all the old photos tho.
