Teresa, I'm researching the Higgins surname from Illinois as well. Mine is William Higgins who married Spicie Bird and they moved to Texas. His son Blackston Cicero Higgins changed his surname to Huggins. I was told that the Higgins in the family were an outlaw gang who changed their name to Huggins. My great great aunt has newspaper articles re: the Higgins gang, but someone else got them when she passed, so I've never seen them. My dad was told stories of all this by her. Does any of this or these people sound familiar to you?

Edwards, Lawrence, and Wabash counties: Ruark, Martin, Higgins, Couch.
McHenry, DeKalb, Ogle, Kane and Rock Island counties: Chamberlin, Munson

Coles co. - Austin, Hancock, Sousley
Fulton co. - Petty, Wheeler
Peoria co. - Wheeler
Bureau co. - Petty, Nixon
Cook co. - Welch, Austin, Ashmore

Researching surnames Clark and Northcott in Grundy County; Clark and Francis in Franklin County; surnames Kirk and Allison in McDonough County

Researching Harmons of Whiteside County and collateral lines: Arnold, Armstrong, Zimmer, Heath. Harmons and Heaths came from Berkshire Co., Massachusetts in late 1840s.
