I apologize that I am just now seeing your question over a year later.
I still have no idea where in North Carolina these McNeils were
before going down into Georgia, supposedly before Daniel, Sr.'s birth in 1791.
We don't know where that was in Georgia either.
The first he appears is in Amite Co., MS, when he married in early 1814.
His birth date is from his tombstone.
In Amite Co. records their name was usually spelled McNeil but sometimes McNeal.
I have never seen it with 2 "L's," though that might not mean anything either.
So I really don't know whether Daniel and his McNeils were ever
in Mitchell or Yancey Counties in NC or not.
Tracy, would you be willing to share your information about your Cox' s in NC. I have been trying to find out the parents of my GGG Grandfather William Cox I have found him in Sangamon County, Ill and then he moved to Southern MO. The story was that he was from TN. Census shows that he was born in VA or NC. Someone else asked me about the Quaker connection but I had not heard that. Anything little thing that you have that I could check out I would appreciate it. Thanks for your consideration, Debra
Hi Tracy,
I saw your note on the South Dakota group. I am also researching primarily in Clark and Codington Counties. My ancestors in this area came there primarily in the 1880s and 1890s. I am researching the Philp, Brown, Veeder, Evans, Lenz, and associated families. If you would like to be friends on here and/or share tips/ideas, let me know. :-)
I surely do wish I knew where our McNeils were in North Carolina.
Daniel McNeil was born in 1791 in either GA or NC (contradictory statment on 1850 and 1860 Amite Co., MS Censuses!), but we are pretty sure that his parents would have been in NC before going to GA. I (and several other cousins) have been trying to find out who they were and where they were from since 1980. Thanks for asking.
Hi Tracy, thank you so much for inviting me to this site. I've already found a researcher from my dad's side of the family. The Grindstaffs are from my mom's. I am excited to see what all is offered on this site and to meet others as well.
