For those of you in the Des Moines area, there's a slumber party Saturday night, July 25th at the Iowa Genealogical Society library from 6 pm to 6 am -or whenever you give up the ghost. There's a $20 charge, which includes pop and pizza in the evening and a continental breakfast in the morning. I always say it's a flashback to a slumber party from teen age years - you stay up all night, eat junk food and talk about boys, but mostly they're dead. Go to the IGS website iowagenealogy.org for more details.

Lynnette -- George is a common first name in my Reed line. As far as I know, Your George is not a relative of mine. . . . Unless, of course, he was from Funkstown, Washington Co, Maryland. The only George I can think of would be too old or too young. Thank you very much, though. You never know.

Carroll -- I have a George W. REED who moved to Benton Co, Iowa with his wife Christina and their children. They appear in the 1880 census in Taylor, Benton, Iowa. George's daughter Viola Trinette REED, married my great-uncle, Frank Warren RAMPTON.

If this is a connection, am happy to share!

I was born in Baker Township, Guthrie Co, Iowa, on the farm in 1936. My mother's family (Reed) had come to the state in 1855-56 to Tama County. My father came from Illinois with his family (Holmes) in 1900 to Bagley, Guthrie County.
My Iowa families are: Holmes, Reed, Simmons, Juurgensen, Peddicord, Decker, Nichols, Luce/Luse, Hoyt, Lukehart, Rape, Raper, and Dana.

Juanita, I make a trip about the US in 08 that included VA, NC, TN, KY as well as a stop in Ottumawa. Unfortunately, I spent 3 days in a motel there sick as can be. Instead of visiting with cousins in Selma and Dodds, I decided to not take a change on giving him what ever bug I had. Unfortunately he passed away this year. He is the last of my 1st cousins on the Golden line that I really knew. My Grandfather re-married and had 3 more Children I only met my fathers half-sisters once and do not remember his half-brother, but they all lived in Albia. My Spilman's were my Grandmother Eliza Zoe, (1895-1950) her Father was James Harvey Reiley Spilman abt 1850-1922. If you have informaiton on the Dotson/Dodson Family I would be interested, My GGM was Elizabeth Ann Dotson (Spilman), My Father described her as a very kind woman. They lived in Wappelo Co. Her father was John Dotson, but I have found very little about him. I believe he is buried in the Bethel Cemetery near Salt Creek, but have never been able to confirm that is it him.

Thanks so mucn for the information Theresa. I checked Patrick's obit again this morning. He died at his daughter, Iva Dunn Bower's, home in Weldon. Even after looking at maps I didn't realize those communities were that close. It's good to know.
