Hello

I am working on my husbands family line and ran across a hitch.   I am looking for his GGG Grandmother Mary Mc Cullough who was married to Jessie Underwood who was born in PA.   about 1823.

Here is what I have on Mary.  She was born between 1822 and 1825 at Sea.  I have not been able to find she ship name or where they left from, however I do have the name of her parents.  Daniel Mc Cullough born abt 1770 in Ireland and his wife Mary who was born in Ireland.

I am assuming they ported in PA, but thus far have been unable to find the ship or where they departed from.   Once I can find out where they came from I hope to be able to trace Daniel and Mary in Ireland..

Anyone have good idea's that I have not tried already?   Much thanks in advance for your help

The assumption that they ported in PA may be wrong.  Remember, there are many ports that they could have come into.  Try checking EllisIsland.org for family names.  Then see if you can check the ports at MASSACHUSETTS (Boston), and the other option is to check GRIFFITH's VALUATION records (which you can do THIS WEEK FOR FREE on Ancestry.com.  Find the McCullough name there and then work at finding Daniel and Mary specifically.

If you focus on the parents themselves or their family name you should find plenty of McCulloughs in any Irish/English database.  Some Irish came from England after migrating there from Ireland.  Particularly in the 1800s for that is when Cromwell's intervention in Irish claims on land overtook the lands of the Irish Clan Lords.

If I recall right, the McCulloughs are from the County Cavan or Derrydark, Ireland areas.

Good luck,

DG Smeall
