I was wondering what "PLCGS" stands for
thank's, Pat Kuhn
Brenda,
Thank you so much for your reply. I am gathering opinions of the classes offered before I sign up. It's really good to hear someone has been able to do so much with the education. I have been researching my family on and off for the last 15 years and think cartification might be a good thing.
Hi Lisa
I have taken many of the courses through NIGS, originally all I wanted was the knowlege to be able to research my own family history, but events snowballed as I became more proficient in my research and I now have a successful genealogy business, with a client waiting list. I also teach and lecture both in Queensland and interstate. I am now doing the Live Meetings for the English and Methodology courses and some of the Analysis and Skills Mentoring Live Meetings and consultations. I am currently rewriting the English Census course,as well as a considerable amount of the Social Media course, so I would say that I definitely gained from doing the NIGS courses.
These courses are a great way to start a career, but just because you get your PLCGS at the end of it, does not mean that you are ready for certification. You are on the way, definitly, but need a lot more working experience, attendance at conferences, reading other genealogists' articles in learned publications and working through case studies before you can think of certification.
As you can see, doing NIGS courses, can open up a whole new world!
I am interested in taking the classes through NIGS, but would like to know if any of you have obtained certification, or are working as a paid genealogist as a result of your classes? Did you find the classes informative, and a good value?
Thanks,
Lisa
Hi Denise,
We all end up with brickwalls sooner or later.Sounds like they may have arrived with the Loyalists since it is approx the same time many left NY for NB and NS. Check out those resources such the as http://www.olivetreegenealogy.com
and any Loyalist Records of American Revolution refugees. There are a number of books describing the evacuation of Loyalists and these often include some names but make sure you check for deviant spellings.
Paul couldn't have said it better. This is great news, Louise.
