Ennis Family of Burke Co., North Carolina

I am researching my 3rd great-grandmother, Mahala Ennis. I am trying to find her parents/family. I do know her father was born in Maryland and her mother in North Carolina. Mahala was born in Burke County, North Carolina on 18 Dec 1820. Mahala was Cherokee.

I've found an Ennis family living in the Burke Co., NC area about the same time period, however I don't know if she belonged to this family or not.

Mahala married Charles Ackles in 1839 in St. Clair Co., Illinois and they moved to the Trenton, Henry Co. area of Iowa.
