My Mackay ancestry (changed to McKee) is traced back to the 1600s in Scotland. My Scott ancestry, by the way, is also traced back to Scotland (so your name intrigues me). The McKees and Scotts both ended up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa so I have a feeling we may be related. They went through Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio before ending up in Iowa. I will locate the info and post when I have more time.
Dear Tiffany: yes I was born in Cedar fRapids, Iowa. I think there was a Donald MacKay that lived near Bever Park. My MacKays/mckays emigrated to the United States in 1884. But the rumor was that Finley MacKay/McKay had brothers that possibly lived in Knoxville, Iowa. My grandfather John Bruce McKay and his brother Kenneth had McKay construction Company. In Cedar Rapids, Ipwa. And they rebuilt Herbert Hoover's birthplace. When Finlay McKay first came to America, well anyway he lived in Henry County, Illinois for about 6 years, than went back to Scotland, and then in early 1890's moved to Linn County, Iowa. First living in Marion, than Cedar Rapids. Finlay was a Millwright a Quaker Oats. I also have Scotts surname in family, but they lived in New Jersey. included in upload. Finlay was a tall man about 6'6". I am a member of Clan MacKay USA , about they have not helped much in my genealogy persuit. I attended Washington Senior High School.
I think Finlay Mckay and family lived in the Timecheck area of Cedar Rapids, iowa. I think alot of the emmigrants lived over there. Scott
