Hi . My name is Heather laverty. I have Scottish ancestors on both my Mum and Dads side. Dad's paternal Grandfather Charles William Lawerence StClair was born in Glasgow in 1852 and he arrived in Port Adelaide in the late 1870s . He settled in Renmark SA .I haven't done anything else about my Grandmothers side of the family yet have been too busy trying to find information about the Pankhurst side. Charles StClair married a Maria Barty from Cuddlee Creek in SA in 1878. She died in 1904 and in 1921 when he was 70 he married Lilac Kirkbright . On my mothers side her Maternal Grandmother was Mary not sure of her maiden name but she married William Henry Davie in 1871 and they lived in Rockhampton Queensland Australia. She was born in 1848 at the Bear's Den a villiage near Glasgow.. I have an article that was written in the paper when she died in Rockhampton in 1931. I must look up her marriage and death records on the net. Heather Lasverty

Hi Kirsty, I have a grandfather who it seems was a Scot rather than an Irishman as he told the family and I have had trouble locating him. He married my grandmother in New South Wales (NSW) Australia so I had his family info from his marriage cert. When it comes to finding his family it's been a long and frustrating search.

What I have from his marriage certificate is:

ANDREW JOHN MCDONALD, aged 25, born Burntisland NSWales, Australia married ANNIE MAY ASPLAND in 1915 at Braidwood, New South Wales, Australia. His father was JOHN MCDONALD, Engineer, deceased, mother NELLIE PRINGLE. Burntisland I have been told is in Scotland hence my switch of research from Ireland to Scotland.

Have found a Andrew John McDonald born 1886, Lossit Kilsyth Stirling, Scotland, father John McDonald, gamekeeper, mother, Agnes McDonald nee Pringle, in the 1891 Scotland Census, Source Citation: Parish: Glasgow St George; ED: 30; Line: 2; Year: 1891.

Source Information:

Ancestry.com. 1891 Scotland Census [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: The Generations Network, Inc., 2007. Original data: Scotland. 1891 Scotland Census. Reels 1-409. General Register Office for Scotland, Edinburgh, Scotland.

Have gone on to find parents for a John McDonald and Agnes Pringle but have I got the right person? I hope I have but how can I be sure. Have printed copies from Scotlands People of this info on John and Agnes.

Can anyone help with this huge brick wall as I've been doing this for a number of years, and I knew the man.

Much appreciated any help I receive.
Jan

Dick. Re Elizabeth Rutherford and Roger Dobson - do you have any place names for these people as it may help to find out more about them. And do you have an occupation for Roger?
