To continue with Bobby Timson's comment about the naming trend for the Scottish, I was given a naming pattern list and it definitely helps to knock down the brick walls.
It is as follows:
First son is named after father's father
Second son- named after mother's father
Third son- named after the father
Fourth son- name after the father's oldest brother
Fifth son- named after the mother's oldest brother
First daughter- named after mother's mother
Second daughter- named after father's mother
Third daughter- named after the mother
Fourth daughter- named after the mother's oldest sister
Fifth daughter- named after the father's oldest sister

Hello All,
I've just joined and am looking forward to reading all the posts. My primary interest in Scotland is my husband's HENDERSON families. One of these was from Glencairn and Sanquhar parishes, Dumfriesshire - descendants of John H. (b.C1750) & Catherine Hunter; and the other was mainly in Edinburgh, Midl. - descendants of Charles Henderson (b.1762) & Barbara Ross - these were the seafaring Hendersons, several being in the Merchant Service in the 19thC. Other name interests: GREIG, Edinburgh; CURRIE, Edinburgh; GLEN (or Glean), Fife; HUTTON, PATERSON of Fife; HODGE, Fife; HOPE of Dirleton, E.Lothian; CAMPBELL, Argyll. I'm happy to share any info. on these families.

Hi Everyone,
The Reids that I am looking for are Thomas Reid and Ann(nee Ferrier or Ferria) They were married in 1889 March 30 in Dundee. My grandmother Helen (Ferrier) Reid was born 1897 13th June in District of St. Clement in the Burgh of Dundee. In spite of all this infomation I can't find them anywhere, mainly due to the fact that so many have the same name.
Are any of your Reids from the same are or have same names? I think there may have been a sister Margaret but am not sure.
Happy searching.

Comment by Sheila Stewart-Lafleur on July 11, 2009 at 11:57am Greetings all. I am researching Archibald Stewart b. 1792 Refluich Farm parish of Kilcalmonell & Kilberry. His parents were David Stewart & Elizabeth McGill. He arrived in Canada 1819, I have yet to find him on a passenger list.
Wife # one is supposed to be Marion Walker m. 24 February 1811 Kilcalmonell. I don't know what became of her. wife # 2 Flor Patton/ Patterson/ Patison etc I have found no wedding for them in Canada or Scotland I do know their first born was named David born Lachine Quebec 1821. Flora died in 1825 and Archie remarried wife # 3 Agnes Anderson McNab Twp. Ont. abt.1827/28.

My Great-Great Grandmother Susanna/Susan McGill B: 1 Nov 1814 Greencastle, Putnam Co., IN D: are the first person I have come in across that was also looking form the Surname McGill.

I am researching both my mother and father's family. They include the surnames: Frazer, Creighton, Moffat, Easton, Hunter, McKnight and Woodside.

Hi all, My ancestors and their collateral lines and allied families lived primarily in Fife, especially in Kirkcaldy, Cupar, Markinch, Dysart, and Abbotshall. The closest line moved to Edinburgh in the late 1800s and my line moved to the US in 1880. I have traced my Philp and Anderson families to the 1830s and my Wilson, Deas, Honeyman, Pearson, Ness, and Elder families father, and have also traced some of the allied families. I have a couple of brick walls that I hope to write a post about in the discussion board soon.

Hi Joy, I guess they could be related but Pringle is a reasonably commom name. I don't have a lot about mine except two brothers married two sisters.
