Quoting Joy: " have an ancestor Rev. Dr. John SMART b. 23 Feb 1764 at Eckford Moss, "

Do you know which Denomination he was a Rev in? Or any of the parishes he held? I've looked through the Fasti for the Church of Scotland (available for download at the Internet Archive) and I can't find him.

Hi, Just a note to let you know that if a child dies and they have more children they name them the same name. So you may find more then 1 person with the same name
in a family.

I am an Arbuthnot. Our ancestry can be traced back to Northern Ireland but exactly how we are connected to the Arbuthnott's in Scotland is unknown. This part of the tree seems to be missing. I would love to be able to continue the tree back to Scotland and our roots - but I have no idea how to do that. I fear that we will never know. Today, I dress up as my Arbuthnot ancestors (the women who married Arbuthnot's) in Colorado and share our history and how they lived their lives as wild west gold miners and later as homesteaders in Colorado Territory.

Quoting Tony Ruffell: "I have some ancestors from Perthshire (Muthill, Blackford) about whom I would like to find more than just BMDs. Are there any diarists, journals or court records for this area from say 1750?"

Have a look at the catalogue of the National Archives of Scotland, it's amazing what they have. Also, have a look at the discussion thread I started on "Where They Lived". You may find some useful material there - for example the original Statistical Account of Scotland was written in the 1790s, and the Ministers often referred to how their parishes had changed in the last few years.
