Hi Jim,
I am not sure where there are connections but my mother is a descendant of a John Avery (. 1810 - 1887, d Whiteside Co, Illinois age 78). He had 7 children born in England and one of them was named Jim -died in 1912. There are still descendants living in that area. My family moved to Nebraska.
My Wolfords are from WV - my maternal grandmother's maiden name is Wolford and I have her line back to the 1700's (John Wolford and Catherine Seidner (sp?). I also have a Wolford that appears to be unrelated (or maybe he is I dont know who his parents were so its hard to say) that comes in not on her fathers side but in her mothers side. His name is Armistead Thomas Mason Wolford.
Sorry for the long delay, I have a Charles and Henry, who came from Germany directly to Illinois, as there was other family there, and believe there still is. But I know of no Bartels that settled in PA. My Bartels immigrated in 1870's, and moved/married into the Langhoff family just across the state line in Iowa. Do you have any connections there?
Jim saw your post about putting names on photos I use Picasa to do that then save them and export to my documents from there it is easy to put them into files or just send to CD to burn them. If you don't have Picasa it is a free download from Google Picasa 3
Hi Jim - It was snowing and quite cool yesterday here. I live in High River just south of Calgary, Alberta about 20 minutes. Because I just couldn't break a couple of roadblocks in the family, I decided to check out GW more. Usually I don't join a chat room but thought maybe I could find some one with same problems that they may have found a way out. There are times when a person looks so long at something but misses the answer that can be to simple. As it is Big Valley's 100th birthday coming up they have asked me to write about 3 different family I am a member of. Will try to check in tonight.
Jim,
At this point, I do not know if I am related to any of the Wolford's of Hampshire County, WV. I did go to school with quite a few of them though. Do you have Shoemaker, Shumaker, or Schumacher listed in your lineage? I would be happy to compare notes.
Thanks Jim. It was very interesting (I'm a big Ghosthunters fan). I have done the Pennsylvania Chats before - more of a lurker though. My husband's great grandfather and great uncle were at Gettysburg. There's a picture of the two of them there on the wall. But neither of them were killed there. They were from outside of Altoona in Three Springs.
No Jim, did not want to post reason on reg board, but I have an eye condition and the clutter in the test room jumbles my vision and the colors of names distract so that I cannot follow the print.I can follow the regular room print because it has a definite line to it and no distractions like the log in log out etc.and colors
Hi Jim,
I'm the great-granddaughter of Mary Comfort Eberhard, who moved with her husband Llewellyn from Lehigh County, PA to Ohio shortly after 1900. Her parents were Lewis Comfort and Polly Schierer, also from eastern PA as far as I know. Does this sound like it connects with your line? If so, I'm happy to share what I have.
Jim, I'm just going through some old messages. You sent in a request to join the Guild of One-Name Studies group on GenealogyWise. However your name does not appear in our register. You might like to have a look at our website and see if you think you might be interested in registering a one-name study:
Sorry I have not replied sooner to your question regarding my relation to any Wolford's in Hampshire County. At this time, I don't believe I am, but I did go to school with quite a few & am in contact with at least one. Should I find that there is a family tie, I will let you know!
As far as I know, my Swedish ancestor immigrants settled in western Massachusetts... Some of their kids drifted down into CT, but I know of none in NY State...
Bradford Co., Pa doesn't ring a bell, but I've only just begun on the Blodgett tree. I looked at what I have and it doesn't appear I have a Bradford Co., connection.
Hello there... Yes, I am Gene and Jill's daughter and I am sorry I haven't replied sooner. I am in nursing school and this semester has been absolutely crazy! I am very interested in knowing anything about the Avery's. I have to share a funny story that happened a few years ago which just peaked my interest even more. When my grandfather passed away in Florida - Theodore Leo Avery, Jr - we were down there for the funeral. I found where he had done some family research and I saw where there were several names down the line with the name Catherine Elizabeth.
Well, my youngest daughter's name is Catherine Elizabeth and I was just blown away. My oldest daughter, Savannah, has a family name from my mother's side and I wanted one for Catherine, too; but just couldn't settle on one. Then 2 years later I found out, she most definitely has a family name. It was actually pretty cool. I would love to know anything you know about the family. Thanks!!
Yes, I remember Suzanne. When I real little my parents would play Pinochle quite often with Aunt Sis and Uncle Ed and I remember Suzanne's Graduation picture on the wall in her nursing uniform. Funny... I had forgotten all about that until you mentioned her. Anyway, my email address is renee_0215@yahoo.com. Thank You!!
Greetings! I just found your comment. Sorry I'm so late to reply. My Ayers and Blodgett are ancestors from way back. If there's a connection, it would be way down the line which I haven't followed.
According to the census, James was born in Virginia, had 5 children in Tennessee before 1850, and had more children in Missouri before 1860. I have no information after the 1860 Census. There are a zillion James West so Birthdate & VA. is key. Thank you for your interest.
Hi Jim - My Snook ancestor (4th gr-grandmother) is Nancy, dau of John and Hannah Coolback. Nancy m 15 Feb 1816 Eli Sutton in Warren County Ohio. She d 4 Nov 1888 and is buried in Hamilton County Ohio.
Thanks, Jim! I see you are a Golden owner too! This one is now almost six - such a sweetie. I guess I should change the picture. This one is from the very beginning of this site, I believe!!
Thank you for your note. I actually did chat, "Windsor Twp," & in the chat, I also offered you a reward for some good Sala images. But it was surely lost in the bizarre & offensive melee' that ensued over my having sincerely offered my 3-decades of expert help for no cost. I cannot & will not apologize for what I do for a living; nor will I apologize for my high success ratio. One of the leaders of FamilyLink.com is one of my former bosses at Ancestry.com. He wrote me one of the 45+ endearing endorsements on Linkedin.com! However, I will not return to that chat room. Now, then, I see you have much Germanic ancestry. I offer one complimentary consultation. For Fae, I found numerous census records, i.e. every one back to 1880! These show much new data for her, but I have anxieties about telling her. She has not emailed me. Please email karlmsala@msn.com GermanGenealogist.com
PS: I am a near-death experience survivor. I forgive those people, for they knew not what they did.
Thanks for your note about Henry Hagaman, I don't have a clue, probably a long distant cousin. I'd be curious about the talk you gave and the story of his strange encounter in Maine.
Jim,
Sorry for the late reply on the Darling family. I am doing double Darling research. I am researching the Vermont Darlings as well as the Mendon, MA Darlings. Where did you see the Vermont Darling tombstone photos? I would be curious to find out if or how the Dennis Darling branch from Braintree, MA and the Edward Darling (Vermont) branches are related.
Jim, I'm sorry if my post came off in a wrong manner. I wasn't aggravated that there was such a chat, just that MY timing was such that I always seemed to have time when it was going on and not for any other chat scheduled LOL! Bad timing seems to be a hereditary thing in my family ;D It wasn't meant to be personal and I didn't mean to demean it, though it probably did come out that way. Again, I'm sorry and I do hope that all goes well for you in Gettysburg. May have to bring out the family for a tour :)
Hey, Jim. I'd love to participate in (or at least lurk, since maybe I don't have much to add, but do have a lot to learn!) almost all of the forums--they sound so interesting. How do I do that?
You are a blue blood compared to me. I am not a descendant of Irish immigrants in the classical sense. It was my mother and some of her siblings who emigrated to here from Ireland. I am not aware of the descendants of other family members in the US, unless unexplained matches through family DNA count. So I don't know about anybody in this country. Sorry!
The Groton Avery Clan, vol.1 Avery, Elroy McKendree Avery family; Allyn family; Allen family; Chapman family; Comstock family; Denison family; Herrick family; Hewitt family; Lester family; Miner family; Morgan family; Wheeler family; Christopher Avery (d.1679) immigrated before 1642 from England to Salem, Massachusetts, and moved to Boston, Massachusetts in 1659. Descendants and relatives lived in New England, New York, Pennsylvan Genealogical Society of Utah
Are you saying you are part of the Loucks family? If so, I wish you would have attended the 300th Anniversary Reunion that took place in York June 24-27 of this year. The next one is being planned for 2012, again in York.
Live in Dover!! Wow, that is where the 200th Anniversary Reunion was held in 1910. Trolley cars from downtown York took over 1000 to Brookside Park where they spent the day listening to various presentations, etc. with one of the local churches fixing the noon meal for them. We just celebrated the 300th Anniversary in York back in June.
Thanks for link to the other family info. Recognize the names so will contact the person who posted it so he can discover the greater family tree.
Although you aren't a family member, greatly appreciate your taking the time to connect us that are!
Jim: One of my Tennant ancestors married Elizabeth Avery born 18 Jan. 1705 at Groton, New London, Conn. Her parents were Jonathan Avery and Elizabeth Bill. She married Daniel Tennant. Several of my Tennant ancestors were named Avery Tennant. Avery Tennant lived in Franklin, Delaware County, New York. Two of his Aunts married Averys?
Their first names were Bell Tennant and Esther Tennant. Bell died in Colchest Ct. in 1838. The Tennants came from Scotland in the 1600's to Rhode Island.
Sorry I have been awhile getting back to you. My brother died in Texas and I didn't have any information with me. Sondra
Thank you, Jim! I had hit a wall in my research before, but hearing from you and the other cousins has really helped. There was so much I missed before. I don't have classes next week so I am really looking forward to having the free time to try reorganizing what I have in order to know where I should look next.
