Hi. Recently connected with more Mooney's here in the midwest and in Virginia. DNA is starting to pick up some information. Do you have your DNA in one of the banks?
Samuel Laird was a prominent citizen in Illinois. He has had military training and volunteered for service in the war with Mexico, becoming colonel of a cavalry regiment. He was a strong supporter of Abraham Lincoln and was deputized to escort Lincoln to Freeport for one of his famous debates with Stephen Douglas. Samuel drove four white horses in tandem, hitched to a high-seated carryall on which he sat with Lincoln. The two were dressed in long-tailed coats and high silk hats.
When the Civil War came along, Thomas Laird, the oldest son of Samuel and Elizabeth Laird, enlisted Oct. 8, 1861, in company G, 46th Illinois Infantry, and served with distinction. He saved the life of his commanding officer and was promoted to first lieutenant. He was discharged Feb. 2, 1866. Laird Haines also served in the Union Army.
I don't know if you got my previouse note - but Patrick O'DONNELL was a British Soldier and when the US - Canada Border was set, the troop was on an Island that became US Property, the troop was moved to Pentanguishene (Penetang, Ontario on the Georgian Bay) He took his release from the British Army and stayed in Canada, he married Mary Guilteney in Penetand and they are Buried in the Military Cemetry there.
Hi you guys,
My maternal grandfather was William Russell Mooney (1898-1966) he named all his homes Avoca you may know it as Ballykisangel, its in the Wicklow Mountains we took my mother there after my dad died, but couldn't find any obvious links other than the feeling we had come home
John
My Hageman line went to Sharonville, Ohio in Hamilton Co, Christian Hageman, married Elizxabeth Jane McCullough and they are my Great Great Grandparents.
Saw your comment last nite on the Chat but had to run so I didn't get a chance to chat with you. You posted about the trooper's death. So very sad. I pulled up the link you had to the story and saw Cranberry Twp mentioned. Do you live near there? (since you mentioned you knew the trooper) I was asking because I just recently connected with a cousin who lives in Cranberry Twp. Just curious. Prayers and thoughts are with the trooper's family.....
Having worked in law enforcement for 37 years, I know the pain of a member of the law enforcement family being killed. If only the public would give them the respect they deserve. Anyway, in my ancestor search, I've come across 2 cousins living near you. I was born in Mt. Lebanon but moved to California when I was young so I'm not real familiar with the area. My father's family seemed to have stayed in and around Allegheny Co. Having a heck of a time finding marriage info on my grandfather and grandmother. How are the records kept? This would have been around 1920 or so. I was able to get my great grandfathers and great grandmothers marriage info from 1897. Very strange. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
I do have Ancestry and have tried the link. No luck....but I'll keep digging! My grandmother died in Bellevue....is that still in Allegheny or another county? I need to get a county map for back then! Don't know if they were living there when they got married. Anyway, thanks for your help....
I do have the evendon website...thanks! I also was in contact with my cousin...he also told me there were two Cranberry Townships! He lives near Pittsburgh. He said they do that to confuse us outsiders...having two places with the same name!
Say, do you have anything on the Mooney line from Maury Co. TN? I can trace back to my 3rd great grandfather, Joshua R. Mooney- b.1805 NC, d. 1865 TN, m. Ruth Martin, but from there the trail grows cold.
hi bob
I might have found you another relative Mooney.. His name was James Eddie Mooney from Ashford, WV he died in the mining accident that took place late week here in WV.
patsy
James “Eddie” Mooney, 51, of Ashford went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 5, 2010, after a mining accident at Performance Coal Company, Montcoal, on that same day.
Eddie was a loving husband, dad and brother. He was a member of Rumble Community Baptist Church. Eddie loved life and he loved to make people laugh. He had been in the mining industry for over 20 years. He was a hard worker and he always put his family first. He enjoyed taking his son hunting and fishing. He also liked camping and four-wheeling. On the weekends he loved to take his 1978 Corvette out for a cruise.
Eddie was born on December 19, 1958, and was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mary Mooney; and father-in-law, Austin Kirk.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Sheila Mooney; daughter and son-in-law, Misty and Eric Case of Palm Coast, Florida; 14-year-old son, Austin Mooney; mother-in-law, Jean Kirk of Ashford; six brothers and sisters and their spouses, Butch and Peggy Mooney of Peytona, Chuck and Sharon Mooney of Drawdy, Patty “Sissy” and Wendy Woodrum of Cleveland, Ohio, Punk and Karen Mooney of Drawdy, Agnes Love of Ohio and Ginny and Michael Graley of Whiteoak; many nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Roger Barker of Costa.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, April 16, at Rumble Community Baptist Church with Pastor Richard Harold officiating. Burial will follow in Holstein Cemetery, Dartmont.
Family and friends will gather from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Rumble Community Baptist Church.
Though your smile is gone forever, and your hand I cannot touch, I still have many memories of the one I love so much. Your memory is my keepsake, with which I'll never part. God has you in His keeping; I have you in my heart.
Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in charge of the service.
Bob,
I only know a very limited bit about the McGuires. My gggrandfather was taken in by Marcus Alan McGuire in 1852 when my gggrandfather's dad dies in a little iron furnace in (W.) Virginia. They move to western Pa. and my relative married the oldest McGuire daughter. She dies, childless)and my relative remarries and spawns a large family. I have trace Allen Marcus back to his birth in 1805 in Virginia. Marcus was an iron furnace worker... perhaps a charcoal burner, and lived on the very edge of poverty. Iknow nothing of his parents, etc but think the unusual name of "Marcus Allen" would find kin in others out of the main stream and the iron furnace work would usually be an inherited profession as they worked in isolated communities and kids went to work along side their fathers. sorry not to be of real help.

Hi there Bob. I know what Patrick Brennan you are talking about. Bytown was Ottawa's name before. They have a section called Bytown still to this day. I was born in Timmins Ontario and my grandpa Tom Brennan is buried there. The Patrick brennan and Mathilda McGuire I know which one you are talking about. Let me know what you are looking for and I will try to help. If you can give me a time when your Pat Brennan was around in Ottawa I will try to get you the census. I moved to Ottawa in 1985 so the Ottawa National Archives is not far from where I am .
Bob, your Patrick Brennan on the info off ottawavalleyIrish. His death just has before 1870, do you know the date at all now? Or the death date of Mathilda Shirley?
Sorry....wasn't sure how close you were. Just curious about how that county kept their records and when marriage records were first started being recorded. Am looking for surnames of Rombach, Pfaff, and Cauff/Couff. All seemed to stay in Alleghney...the first came to PA around 1830. Thanks!
Hi
My last name is Mooney. My grandad was from england and his parents were from Ireland. Im new to all this genealogy stuff so I was wondering what you knew about the Mooney family from England/Ireland....was also wondering what the coat of arms was you have on this page?
Thanks
Sam
Thank you for the tip. Going through that site I don't think that our Stoneman's are related to that Stoneman family, but there might be others who will find this information very interesting :)
Hey, Bob...for Isaac I have a copy of his Declaration For Widow's Pension and Increase...a copy of his Certificate of Marriage...and a copy of a document fron the War Departmen Adjutant General's Office that is a recordd of his service...my mother got these in April of 1959...how do I go about getting a copy of John's Pension Record? and do you have any suggestions on finding anything on Richar B. I'm pretty sure he was at Bird's Point, MO when he died. Thanks!
This is what I have on Ransom Hatfiled...b. 1837 KY...married to Sarah E. Coleman (Colman) on 22 May 1873...Sarah and Ransom had one daughter...Carrie Belle Hatfield b. 12 May 1874 Shelbyville, Shelby Co, IL d. 23 Oct 1953 Memphis, TN...married to John McManus.
Yes, I am from Pittsburgh. My Brennans are from County Mayo. Greatgrandfather John Brennan, grandfather, James P. Brennan, one of 11 children. Let me know what your interests are in the Brennans.
Well, I know that that is far sooner than when my Brennans came to USA and settled in Pittsburgh. Do you know the origins of yours in Ireland? Patrick is a family name and so is Thomas, my father being named Thomas Robert Brennan. But my Brennans came to PGH about 1882, after their mother had died in the homeland. They brought their father, John, with them, who brought their 2 youngest sisters. Other siblings also settled in PGH but I'm not sure of their arrival dates.
Sorry if I am not much help.
I do know exactly where they were from in County Mayo if it interests you.
As far as I can see I have no Markham connections in the USA - all my relatives came from Lincolnshire in the UK. You may have luck with your Virginia Markham/marcum here: http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/marcum/pats
Bob, after looking over your geneology list, I wanted to let you know that i live in Northeastern North Carolina, and am familiar with many Bryants in this area. I worked with a Bennett Bryant at panda energy here in Roanoke Rapids for four years. He is from milwalkee, NC. and most of the Bryant clan or family live in Northhampton County. If you like to know more just inbox me. Lots of Bryants, Turners, Grizzards, Dunlows in this area.
I am researching the HENRY HARRIS family (1st wife Izzie INGS; 2nd wife Rosa) who lived in Darlington Co, SC and Lee County, SC. Henry Harris was born 1865 South Carolina (probably Darlington Co, SC.)
Thanks for the feedback Bob. I'm still trying to navigate around the site and get my bearings. There seems to be a lot going on. Is the chat room the "main room" that seems to be going a million times a minute?
