Hello Declan,

Through DNA, I've discovered that my Forbes family from Cork Ireland (George Forbes & Sarah Haggartie married in Kilmeen Parish 1803) have much deeper Scottish roots.  What is interesting is that there were many intermarriages between Forbes and Chalmers in Banffshire and Aberdeen.  I'm presently focused on the marriage of Mary Chalmers 1731-1823 and William Forbes 1731.  Mary appears to have been the grand-daughter of  a Rev Hugh Chalmers from Alvah.  Haven't yet found the connection between my Cork family and these Scots, but I'm intrigued by your family's connection between Banffshire and Cork.  Was this a personal choice or was there a migration event perhaps with several families in the 18th century?  Best wishes, Eric Forbes

thanks for the invite to look at your site, I have several times, I  can't seem to connect with my branch of family members of the Chalmers of Strichen on your site. I should also mention that there is an expert on the Chalmers family in Dunedin NZ, or close by there. She has been researching the highland Chalmers of Balnacraig an cults an Strichen for 40 years that I know of. When my cousin invite me down there to go over them, she said I better make it along trip because her mum had boxes an boxes of family records an I would be there awhile if I was planning to go through them.. i'll tell ya I sure would of liked to sit down with John Gibson Chalmers before he passed away, god rest his soul, because he sure had quite a collection of Chalmers stuff,. John would never tell me which branch he was from ....may I ask did he ever mention which branch he was connected too, when you two gentlemen were talking once an awhile over the net........cheers from Canada......Scotty

Thanks for replying, I live in Dunedin, New Zealand, and have just discovered which family our Jean Chalmers is connected.   She was born 2nd September 1787, to William Chalmers & Katharine Douglas.   She married Alexander Davidson, and had the following family:

William Davidson, born Kennellar, Aberdeen.

Ann D, born 8th Feb, 1816, Nicles (Nicholas), Janet & George, Triplets born 24th May 1818, and then twins Jane & Robert born 10th March 1822 all in Kintore.

Nicles, married Andrew mackenzie, 6th July 1844, and their daughter Ann Barnett Mackenzie married William Fisher Wilson who is my Great Great Grandfather.

Is it possible to email you direct in Cork?

Hi Declan, Thanks for the welcome...I live in Glasgow, and yes my tree from all branches seems to originate in Ireland... I think my Casey's are from a place called "Muckno"... Haven't been able to confirm this tho'... :)

    Thanks for replying to my message. Yes, I am doing my genealogy searching in West Cork area.  My grandfather was John Manning from Bantry born in 1880, and my grt,grt grandmother Sarah Goslin/Gosnell came from Sherkin Island-born in 1822. She married Joseph Regan in 1846 on Sherkin Island, and they and their families went through the Famine years. The Regan-Goslin families left Cobh in 1851 bound for Boston.  Thus, I am 4th generation Irish American from Boston, now living in Spain.

  Presently, I'm trying to find where Joseph Regan was born. It seems that he wasn't born on Sherkin , so I'm looking in the triangle areas of Cork City, (Skibbereen,Schull, Aghadown, and Ballydehob), and Cape Clear Island. His birth was abt. 1822 + or- 5 yrs.

His parents were James Regan and wife Margaret. My stuck. Got any ideas?

CofI means Church of Ireland. I certainly did not mean I expected you to research the Campions and/or Mayes families for me nor do I expect you to. I hope you didn't take it that way. If you should stumble across any information on them, however, I will be eternally grateful. Rebecca Campion's heastone indicates she was a native of County Cork, but given that the headstone may have been erected by her children, it could be in error. She died in 1871 and her husband in 1881, she I suppose her husband may have supplied the information, John's brother, Richard, was born in 1810 in Ireland and married Mary ___ about 1830/1831 in Ireland. I knew one of John's sons was baptized in the Parish of Fermoy because a copy of the baptizm was included in his Civil War papers. The other one I found on rootsireland.ie.

Is there anything I can do for you in the US?

One of these days I hope to visit Ireland. I have a Robison/Robinson/Robertson family that went to Canada from Ireland, but I am really stuck on that line. Can't find the parents in Canada.

I am interested in the Campion family, of which I know very little. John Campion was born in 1800 in Ireland, married in1823 (if I recall correctly) Rebecca Mayes, and came to the US around 1848, first to Ontario County, New York, then to Greene County, Ohio. I know he was initiated into the Harmony Masonic Lodge in March 1838 at Fermoy, and joined the Ark Lodge in Geneva, NY in September 1848. Two of his children were baptised in the Parish of Fermoy (CofI), Richard on 13 October 1843 and Andrew on 29 July 1839. Other children were Mary,  b. 1825; John, b. 1827; Hester, b. 1829; Katie, b. 1835; and Walter, b. 1837. He had a brother, Richard, who arrived in the US before him, and he lived in Ontario County, New York. Richard, John and John's sons were shoemakers.  Katie is my ancestor.  I guess I know more about him than I thought. I would like to know more about his family and their life in Ireland, like where he lived, who his parents were, etc.

I  live in the US, in Ohio, about 35 miles from where John and his family lived in Greene County.
