I do believe Richie is correct you are most likely of Richard. I do have much on this Garrison line of you would like to contact me. If you are from my line I would like to add you to my tree :-)
Meanwhile, after all that, I just found a tree on Ancestry.com that links an Isaac Garrison born 1799 in Plattekill, NY to father Isaac b. 1760, son of Major Richard Garrison b. 1727 in Westchester County, NY (Where the Isaac Garrison I mentioned earlier also lived), son of a Jonas Gerritsen b. 1684 in Westchester Co., NY, son of Derrick Gerritsen b. 1647 in NY (New Amsterdam at that time aka Manhattan). So it seems you have more than one trail to examine. My earlier comments might be totally off, but then, maybe these two lines are related, too.
Delores,
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that your Albany area Garrisons are descended from the original Staten Island Garrisons: Lambert Gerritsen who married half-Dutch, half-Welsh Susannah Morgan in 1683. Their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with the descendants of other associated families, fanned out to Pennsylvania and upstate NY. I have some of their grandchildren being born in Garrison's Landing, Putnam County, NY in the 1730s (Isaac Garrison, b. 1700, lived there in the 1720-30s). That would have been a stepping stone to spreading out farther north in the Albany area. I've found the early generations of these families to be *very* mobile, going from Staten Island to as far north as Canada and as far south as VA, NC, TN as far west as OH and IN... all within two or three generations. Berne, NY is only 20 miles north of Garrison's Landing, NY. Also, it looks like the Garrisons who lived in Berne circa 1800-1810 trace back to Putnam County, NY. So, I think you should try to find the link between your Garrisons and one of the sons of Lambert Gerritsen and Susannah Morgan (Lambert, Charles, Daniel, Seger, Isaac, Nicholas, Jacob).
Regarding Lambert Gerritsen and Susannah Morgan: Lambert was born on Staten Island, son of Gerrit Segerse of the Netherlands. Susannah was the daughter of Charles Morgan of Newport, Monmouth, Wales and Catalyntje Huybertse van Keuren of Harlem, NY. Catalyntje's father was Hubert van Keuren, born about 1607 in the Netherlands. There are a few references to Charles Morgan. He was one of two non-Dutch who held important positions (and lands) in the Dutch settlement of Gravesend, Kings County, NY. He was quite wealthy. I believe he was the grandson of Sir Edward, Second Baron Morgan of Llantarum Abbey, Monmouthshire, Wales, but it's been difficult making the irrefutable connection.
Thank you so much for the welcome. I am excited to have found this site and have hopes of breaking down the walls that have been blocking my progress. My Garrisons are in and around Albany NY at least until the late 1700's. That is where I have hit my wall and can't find any further info.
I also added a photo of our family home in the mid 1900''s as I thought it might be interesting to some.
