Hi Nancy
I ran your info by my firend I mentioned in Dalles here is his reply
Question: Henry’s father was David Shores born Abt. 1783 married to Mary M. (maiden name unknown). I don’t know where David was born but the rest were all born in NJ.
Answer: David Shores (b 1783 in NJ) married Mary Murphy on Feb. 8, 1821 in Cumberland Co.
While Henry (b 1829, NJ) appears to be the only child of David Shores & Mary Murphy, Henry Shores & Sarah E. Stephens had two (2) sons: William H. Shores (b 1851, NJ) & James Frank Shores (b 1858, NJ). William H. Shores & Mary LNU had only one child, Richard Harvie Shores (b 1891 in Mississippi – died 1974 in Brown Co., TX). I have no information regarding Henry Shores’ youngest son, James Frank Shores.
Attached copy of Richard Harvie Shores’ WWI Draft Registration Card.
Sarah E. Stephens who married Henry Shores in the mid 1850’s was living in the vicinity of Bridgetown, Cumberland Co., NJ. Samuel Shores’ wife, Polly Stephens (b 1757) was presumably from a Stephens family residing in Sussex / Morris / Essex Co., NJ.
The David Shores household appears in Hopewell Township, Cumberland Co., NJ as early as the 1830 U.S. Census (Bridgetown, where David’s son, Henry Shores, was living in 1860 is located in Hopewell Township, Cumberland Co., NJ).
There are 1780 tax records for both a David Shores and a Samuel Shores in Chesterfield Township, Burlington Co., NJ – clearly from a prior generation and not the above David Shores (b 1783) who married Mary Murphy. Did a David Shores family move south to Cumberland Co., NJ and the family of Samuel Shores move north to Sussex / Essex Co.?
There is a Samuel Shores (b 1854) residing in Bridgetown, Cumberland Co., NJ in 1880.
I think it is quite possible that the family of Samuel & Polly Stephens Shores and the family of David & Mary Murphy Shores are closely related.
What do we know regarding James Frank Shores who married Sarah Royal?
Nacy there was a map and draft card he sent to me but it didnt copy and paste email me your addy and will send it to you jsmith1020@comcast.net

Hi Nancy
Thank you your response. I do believe our lines may connect. I am working with another researcher in Dallas who has alot of Shores data . His lines come from New Jersey also ans he is trying to tie in all lines and bits of info so I will forward what you sent to him also. Maybe it will help solve out puzzle.
The first I have is Samuel Shores born 1755 in Sussex County NJ married to Polly Stephens b 1757. His son Caleb was born in Canoe Brook Sussex County NJ 15 Sept 1789. My line decends from his son Joshua born in NJ 1787. Books show Joshua moved from NJ in 1795 as a teen from Newark. The whole family moved to Sheshequin Bradford County PA. Samuel fought in the Rev War. Samuel had a cousin James who also moved there and was a blacksmith. Joshua married Margaret Post, another family moved from NJ.
I am looking for the parents of Samuel and Polly. I found some references to Shores but no connections yet. A Chamberlian brought a farm in late 1700s called the old Shores place. Which Shores have yet to find. There are mention of a James and a James SR on tax rolls in Morris county. There is mention of a William Shores sheriff but have yet to connect to any of these.
After Joshua my line decends thru Adrian or Adraine who married Anna Eliza Lent about 1832.
Charles Darwin Shores son of Adrain married Harriet Tuttle. I only recently found she passed when I was about 13 and I didnt know she existed.
Albert Norman Shores married Emma Eunice DeBell. These are my grandparents both passed before I was born. A divorce when my mom was very young resulted in Albert moving to NJ where he remarried and later killed in a auto accident about 1940. My grandmother passed in Vestal NY.
Their were 3 children. My mother was Hazel Mae Shores born 1916. She dies at age 32, when I was two years old. That is why this side of my family is so unfamiliar to me.
Thank you again for your msg and will keep in touch

I am also researching the surname Shores. My family came from Sussex County NJ in the middle 1700s.
