I've posted some maps on the History Forum page of the group. Of course there was no "Latvia" during much of the 1800s. Technically Lithuania didn't exist then either. But I hope the progression of maps will help you here.
You posted to John on my profile page, rather than in the Lithuanian group. I know that I've read about people finding records in St. Petersburg, Russia, but I don't know how, where, when. I think I've been on the website for Russian Archives before, but I didn't know what to make of it. But there ARE records of some Lithuanians held in Russian records. Sorry I can't give more info.
