Previous family research indicates that
Jane Ebrey was born in 1839 and baptized in Hodnet, a village north of Shrewsbury in Shropshire, England. Her parents are said to be
Thomas and Anne Ebrey. Unfortunately there is no IGI record for her birth or baptism for Hodnet or nearby Prees where the Ebrey family was well known. It appears that her parents died when she was young as she was in service with relatives in 1851 [census] and in 1861 [census] kept house for her
Uncle Robert Ebrey and his two sons, both times in Prees.
I do know Robert Ebrey's parents from his IGI birth/baptism record --
Thomas Ebrey and Isabella Gilchrist who married 31 Dec 1795 in Prees. The challenge is to find their son Thomas and his marriage to Anne, for which no IGI has yet been found.
I know I must order a copy of Jane's 1866 marriage record when she married Benjamin Booth, also of northern Shropshire. [They then came to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, on their honeymoon and stayed!]. But I would welcome any other strategies for breaking through this brick wall. If it helps,
click here for a longer query that I posted last year. Thank you!
