Hey Robyn! Welcome to the Alabama Root Diggers!:-)

There have been 2 LAWRENCE Co. Researchers thus far - Di Tarhalla and Danny Wahlquist. Looks like they have 2 Lawrence Co. discussions going that I will work to combine - it's easier for researchers from a common County to be 'grouped' under one discussion.

What are your Ancestor surnames you'll be researching? Reach out to both researchers too! I am sure they can give you the skinny on LC!:-)

Cheers Alabama Root Diggers!

I've been MIA for a few weeks now, pulled-away tending to my Mom who is battling Alzheimer's Disease. This has been a challenging month for my Mom & Family, but God willing, we will make it through this!

There have been several new Alabama Root Diggers added to our group since my last visit, so here's a hearty WELCOME ABOARD!:-)

I'd love to hear from you all in regards to what we can do here at ARD to enhance our collective research because after all, that's what we're here for right?

Maybe it's a monthly ARD Skype call or Second Life chat? Maybe some of us each month could offer a few volunteer hours to help a fellow researcher in need? Acts of Kindness are always appreciated!:-)

Please send me and/or post your ideas! All ideas are welcome?!

I plan to poke around the GenWise community to see how much we've grown & catch-up on the lastest activities!

Anyone who is looking for information in the Benton/Calhoun area of Alabama might try contacting the Alabama Room at Anniston Public Library. The last time I contacted them, their e-mail address was : alroom@anniston.state. If you have problems with this addy, post on this board, and I will get you their telephone number. The last time I ordered anything from them, it was only a dime per copy. Of course, things have gone up.

Hello Luckie and all :)

Researching Silas MOORE b. 1851-2 in Alabama. By 1874 Silas was in Putnam or Jasper County, GA. He married Ella BURNEY from Putnam County about 1874 and by 1880 they lived in Jasper County. He died between 1910-1920 Jasper County, Ga and no record of death was filed.

There are a few possibilities that are close matches in the AL 1870 Census:
1. Silas Moore age 19, Perry County, AL...
....Millie, 20, Winnie, 10, Emma, 08 and Wesley 21
2. Silas Moore, age 24, Dallas County, AL
.....is living in the household of Ellick REESE w/wife and children and a lady and her baby surnamed CHESTNUT.

The 3rd Silas Moore Silas Moore was the son of Cupid and Whinny of Jefferson County (former slaves of John B. Moore>James B. Moore). He is ruled out because he is still in Jefferson County and married in 1880.

A descendant of one of the slave owners I was interested seen my post on the Yahoo group MOORE-SOUTH and offered to see what he could find on him but never got back to me. I'm assuming he never made any discoveries, but I will check into that to be sure.

My CALHOUN County families are: DANIEL, POSS VINCENT, HAYNIE KENNEDY, WHITESIDE and CROSBY. All of these were located in the Ohatchee/Sulphur Springs area.

In CLAY County my surnames are: JOINER, OWEN, BURGESSS, ARNOLD, BLACKSTOCK, CONDRY, LOIN, DAWKINS, SCOGGINS/SCHOGGINS. All of these are located in the Ashland area.

Researching Dillard's in Etowah and St.Clair, Ferguson's in St.Clair, Washburn's, Copelands, Hafley are the main lines.

Great resource for internet genealogy researchers. I've found slave era information that I'll be looking into further about my Alabama relatives. Well here's the link. Its a searchable Alabama death records database for deaths from 1908 through 1974.

I only looked at the index before to pull the names. The records go to about 1850. They are court records and marriages.

Charles Coleman-changed his last name to Collins..dont know why.
Louisa Collins married Leander Harris son of James and Lucrecy Harris
Huldy Martha Collins married Prate Poe, a brother Charles Poe was living with them in the 1900 census.
