I am a descendant of John Matheson (b. 18 Jun 1797 in Corraig Sutherlandshire and d. 20 Mar 1878 in Red River Settlement), who arrived in 1815 as part of Lord Selkirk's third party.  John's parents were Alexander and Ann (?) Matheson who may have been from Rossshire.  Alexander, along with his second wife Janet/Jean (?), and their children also emigrated to the Red River Settlement in 1823.

I am always open to discuss / share information about this Matheson line.

Hello,

I am Leslie Matheson, nephew of Edith, so she just laid out my relationship here.

Found this site from the TLSARL.
Which son of John and Nancy are you descended from? I'm curious which other families you are related to.
Hello all, I have two lines of Matheson's in my family tree so perhaps you can help me tie some of this together.

1. Samuel Murray Matheson's line comes from Hugh Matheson (1816 - 1900) in Oxford Co. Ontario Hugh married my gggrandmother's sister, Catherine Campbell.

2. Another sister, Elizabeth "Betsy" Campbell married Heman Sutherland Matheson, son of "Big Red" John Matheson and Barbara Sutherland. This family left the Red River Settlement and travelled to Oxford Co. Ontario.

3. The Campbell girls' mother was Elspet Sutherland (daughter of Donald Sutherland and Marrion Bannerman, Kildonan, Sutherland.)

Too many coincidences for them not to be related, I think.

Julie.
Hello Samuel, I too am a decendant of Alexander and Janet/Jean Matheson. I was trying to go on the old maps of Scotland to try and find this town-Coirag. This closest I have found is a place called Corraig do you think this is the right place just misspelled?
Shelly
Hi Shelly,

I have seen a number of spellings since my post and Corraig is probably the right spelling. I also found Corraig on an old map and also on some old OPR's as well.

Sam
