Hi, Kathy:

Please contact me at cpalm64@hotmail.com. I wanted to share with you (hopefully you are a blood relative of S.D. Oliphant) an original, hand-written journal that belonged to Lt. Col. Samuel Duncan Oliphant, 8th Pennsylvania Volunteers, in 1861-1862. Thank you.
Kathy, We need male Oliphant from this line to have their DNA tested to seei fthere is a connection before they came to America with the Duncan Oliphant line. ken
I actually found a living descendent of S.D. through his brother Stephen Duncan Oliphant. I have been trying to reach him to give him the hand written journal that Chris Palm has so generously offered. I have a phone# which is valid but reached his answering machine.
If you would like to reach me directly, my e-mail address is nyfromca@aol.com
Thanks,
Kathy Duncan Cawley
Alex, There are descendents of this line in NJ. Samuel Duncan hasd ten sons and his ife died. He remarried Buleah Oliphant from Duncan Oliphant's line and she raised hi sons. ken
Richie, I have just published a book called "THE OLIPHANTS OF NEW JERSEY" Roddy will vouch for the quality of the research; he wrote the preface. Your James is my David's younger brother and I have a lot of info on James' line. Will be glad to share. The book is for sle at $27.95 plus shipping. ken middleton
Ken,
I sent you a message asking if there's a website for your book. If so, I'll put it on the main group page.

I don't know much about my James Oliphant at all. Just that he was the baby. I have death dates for him and his wife in Virginia, but I think they must be wrong, because those dates make them both very old (in their 90s).
Richie, I do not have a website! Send me your regular e-mail and I will send you the chapters on Duncan and his family from one of my later drafts. I have info on James' line that I could put on this public forum, if you like. I have the children and sometimes grandchildren of James' four sons and their stories. James, for example, once got into a tussle with his wife Jane oer the musket, when they spotted a flock of wildturkeys feeding in their yard. During the tussle, the musket was broken and the birds escaped. They both complained about this for years and years. Kinda sounds like the Beverly Hillbillies' Granny and Jethro. ken
Ken:

Wondering if you book on the Oliphants of New Jersey shows any relation to the Oliphants of Sabine Co., TX. If so I would be interested in your book.

What do you all think of this? See any common errors from using Ancestory.com? I feel pretty sure upto Wilford Oliphant b. 1842 Sabine, TX as this matches what my father has shared with me...past that it relys on others family trees heavily...

Does anyone have good information form Duncan's lineage?

I'm pretty new to this so thanks in advance.

---< UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE >>>---

It appears my early assumptions are incorrect, I can only trace back to Robert Oliphant 1771-1841, the earlier Johns and Duncan are not supported by DNA.
