G-G-Grandfather John P. Underwood, born about 1823, apparently in Ohio.
1850 Census - married to Jane
Green Twp., Hamilton County, OH.
1860 Census - married to Sarah (??)
Green Twp., Hamilton County, OH
Sylvia - 9
Henry - 9
Ardminta - 7
Ellen - 4
Charlotte - 2
Edward - < 1
By the time Morgan's Raiders went through in 1863 my G-grandfather Albert had been born (1861). lthough they did not harm his mother a few of the raiders stopped at their farm and forced her to prepare a meal for them. Apparently it scared her so badly she died within a few days of the event. (Or so the family story goes). At any rate most of the children were farmed out to neighbors - some never saw each other again.
Goal is find the ancestors of my John P. Underwood. In 1850 and 1860 there were other Underwoods living in Green Twp. all of them listing their occupations as Cooper. Oddly one of the other Underwoods is also named John and is about the same age as my John - possibly cousins ?
I'm beginning to think he might have been adopted - no available genealogies seem to cover this family

My husbands family "Underwood" were from Knox Ohio. I don't know how close that was but The first names were:
Isaac b- 1851, Jesse jr. b- 1823, in PA, Jesse Sr.b-1788 PA, Obid b- 1763 PA. They all died in Ohio though in the Knox area. I hope this is helpful.

We have Underwoods in Ohio but in Knox area. You might take a look at my page and see what you can find that might help. I am responding for my husband since his is a novice to all of this..
